I wouldn't complain..

TV service + gigabit internet ($120/month) -- incl, 2 TB TV recording storage, ability to record 8 shows at once, 1 TB Google Drive space, etc.

Gigabit internet ($70/month) -- incl 1 TB Google Drive space

FREE INTERNET ($0/month) -- 5Mbps (approx 600 kb/s dl speed)


Put bluntly: Holy sh*t... Say goodbye to all internet/TV providers...

FYI, Gigabit internet means 100-125 megabytes per second downloads. Not slow.

Actually it means wherever they get the most pre-registrations ;) it's kind of a brilliant marketing campaign... we'll only build it where people tell us to, so you gotta tell your friends about it!

Virgin Media has 100Mb here , I have the 50Mb sevice which is getting upgraded to 100Mb FOC later in the year.

Ive found that whilst we have the ability to D/L at these speeds, only a minority of websites have the ability to supply the data at such speeds.

I think they should just put everyone else on the backburner and hook up Aus first, our internet is basically as crappy as it gets :p

I use a private tracker which maxes out my net connection @ 5.97MB /sec

Considering the sheer size of Aus...

Most of the population is on ADSL2, and the others being on ADSL or even dialup, there are _very_ few people with access to fiber.


They are starting to roll out a fiber network, however considering the size of Aus as you pointed out, it'll be many, many years before it'll become a majority.

I can score a 10mbit down and 0.8mbit up on speedtest and it'll report as faster than at least 80% of Australia :(

But it's not only the speeds that are an issue, but we're still mostly stuck on bandwidth caps, and just general pricing is insane.

For example, I pay about $90/month, and all I get for that is 200GB of ADSL2.

Yeah, when I visited Australia, I was very shocked to see bandwidth caps on ads. I was like, 'Seriously?'

In Korea, that kind of thing is simply unimaginable.

Most of the world is lagging behind in access to broadband internet except S.Korea, Japan, HongKong (soon to be limited severely) South Korea is on extremely high bandwidth services for the general public. Gigabit access is commonplace in apartments. Canada is on the extreme opposite and is worse than Australia for access. 30/3 Mbit connection costs over $100 a month.
