Its supposed to be bad here from 5pm-12am. Where I'm located ... we will get hit with the eye of the storm. It will probably breakup before it gets here but we will still get tropical storm winds and a lot of rain.

I don't have much to worry about since I'm in a higher elevation away from rivers and stuff and I don't live next to the coast. I may get power outages and maybe some tree bits. Nothing too severe.

I hope everyone stays safe and makes the appropriate preperations.

Well despite this difficult time ahead for those being affected by this storm in the NE, I'd like to ask something on the lighter side of this bad event while I'm sending good wishes and prayers out to you folks..... Has anyone ever posted a hurricane beamshot here before? If this can be done without compromising your safety I think it'd be pretty cool to see, however pleaase dont consider such an idea if the circumstances aren't relatively safe for you, those around you and of course your laser! This is just an off the hip thought, but if it's truly too dangerous (Ive never experienced a hurricane before) then please ignore this post and/or tell me to STFU! I dont want to suggest anything stupid or unsafe if that's going to be the case, it was just an idea :p

I will try it :eg: the worst of it is coming later in the day and there will probably be no power so total darkness :can: also all the airports are closed so no worries about lazing planes (I live 15 miles from BradleyInternational so it is always a concern) however until the generator is on I will not be able to upload pics which will probably be Tuesday or Wednesday.

Hope everything is overblown. I hope nothing major happens! We are all affected by this storm.
Stay safe, prepare for the worst case scenario. Keep food and water on hand. Battery operated radio and flash lights.

Jander6442 and all of you guys, thank you for the well wishes :)

I've just been a bit too busy to post. I'm trying to finish up everything I possibly can, in terms of work, with the expectation that I might not be able to work for 2-3 days, or possibly more.

So far nothing exciting, just some strong winds, and a drizzle. Supposed to get a lot worse after 6pm, and through the night.

For myself personally I'm expecting fewer problems than I had same time last year. There is no expectation of snow, and the wind is actually helping somewhat in that it's stripping the trees of leaves.

@danefex - Batteries are charged and ready to go... including my waterproof point and shoot. I have three wavelengths in very weatherproofed hosts... so that's something on my to do list :eg:

Edit: VERY unusually strong winds. I'm kind of concerned for a tree across the street from me. If it goes down... well, I'll be back online eventually :p

Yes, as said above - definitely safety first and always! Hurricanes are no joke despite my finding it funny when reporters on TV are giving a live news update while chained to a stop sign when the storm is hitting & pickup trucks are flying around in the background

I dont mean to insinuate just going outside in 90 MPH winds just to share some laser hurricane pics, just saying it'd be pretty cool to see if it could be pulled off safely and responsibly :p

The area where I'm at is likely not going to get hit hard. There is a small possibility that it could be, but most prediction models show it missing me...

In terms of safety more than anything I'm worried about fallen/falling branches. My apartment complex has a lot of older trees. Dead branches were cut off spring time, and lots of trees were both uprooted, and pruned after last year's freak snowstorm, but still that's no guarantee.

Power flickered a couple times, wind is howling, water from tap is definitely not safe to drink anymore... as hurricanes go, so far so good. Nothing too interesting to take pictures off yet.

Unfortunately those in coastal areas are getting hit really hard... beaches are being literally washed away, lots and lots of flooding already, and much more is expected.

Edit: 7:48pm EST - Lights flickering a lot. I suspect to be without power later tonight. Fortunately it's already pretty late, and I'm tired... going to sleep through it :p

A lot, a lot of central New Jersey is without power, and flooded. I feel especially bad for people on the coast, south jersey.

My brother who is about an hour south of me is without power as of 6pm.

Nothing exciting happening, just ridiculous gusts of wind, and some rain.

Edit: 10:00pm EST - Surprisingly I still have power. Lights continue to flicker.

My friends are dropping offline like flies though :( Many are now stuck without power in surrounding areas. Some with only candles :shudder:

I live in Alfred NY, and we're getting flickering lights every now and then in my dorm...

But, of course classes are still scheduled to go on as normal tomorrow, even though basically every other school district and college within a 500 mile radius is closing.

Hell Alfred University, which is LITERALLY right across from us has canceled classes while we still have them tomorrow. School districts up in buffalo are closing too for christ sakes.
