An Even Brighter Key Chain Flashlight Mod!

I have a question for anybody who might know...

I would like to make this 'brighter key chain flashlight' a constant on (push on - push off) switch like my 1st key chain flashlight mod, but I had to remove the little switch circuit in order to get more current for this build. The stock switch circuit is what limits the current with the other build.

Does anybody know if there is a tiny push on - push off switch that I can buy? (see pictures - first post) If so, it would be fairly easy to swap it out, and some how make it work.

I am hoping there is such a switch, because I don't like the idea of bypassing the switch and just making it a 'twist on' switch. I like the side button...

Thanks for those links...

I was hoping for something smaller if anybody knows something like this exists. Those are about 12mm X 12mm. That's the I.D. of the Key Chain host.

Hmmm... I think I'll buy some just to experiment with. I'm think that I could just completely remove the stock circuit, and the switch will become the new circuit. Because there definitely is not room for both. The stock circuit slides into the center of the barrel on two side slots...

Retrofit!

Thanks for the links guys...

I went digging through my box of stuff and found a clicky that I some how got to fit inside the little Key Chain light!  :D

Now I have a 'push on / push off' clicky installed under the side button! :D The really tricky part was to also make room for a 3 ohm resistor. PHEW!

Using a clicky switch similar to this one from DX: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.5604
(only mine has one leg at one side and the two alternating hot legs at the other side - see pictures)

Here's how...

It was a lot of work to get the clicky to fit inside. But now that it is all done, I am very happy to have it working at this higher current using a clicky (constant on) switch!

Using the clicky switch, and 3 ohm 1 watt resistor, I measure 332mA's current draw with a fresh battery! :)

Jay, you are a true dyi'er ;D what can't you do?  ::)

I'll tell you what, getting that large clicky to fit inside of the tiny key chain host and still make room for the 3 ohm 1 watt resistor has been the biggest challenge that I have done so far with these flashlight and laser mods...

There was no room length wise to put the resistor inside of the heatsink, which is where I was going to try to put it. I guess 'where there's a will, there's a way'...

Well this kicks the s*** out of any LED keychain out there ;D I wonder if you could put a R2 or a SSC P4 in there and somehow give it full power.....battery life would suck, but it could be used as self defense weapon at night :D

Not sure exactly what emitter it is that comes from the Pocket Mini host, but I think that it is a Q5 or an R2.

Direct from a 3.6 volt rechargeable, it draws over 1 amp. From a RCR123, it draws 1.5 amps! (just as bright as my Q5 lights that are over 200 lumens)

But in this Key Chain host, getting over 300mA's is about max I think. Because the largest battery that could possibly fit is the 10280. (with the tail cap mod) And it is only a 200mAh battery. So with a 332mA current draw, it is about 1.5C. That's why I put the 3 ohm resistor in it, and didn't run it direct off of the battery...

I'll tell you what though, it is very bright at 332mA's! :)

1.5 Amps you say.....that would make sense that the ultrafire batteries are discharged useless in 10 minutes. :-/

I was thinking that you were sure it's a Cree P4 cause you gave the link to the Cree P4 :p

Anyway, I bet it beats those 9 LED flashlights at 332mA too :D

What's with all the "Self-Defense weapons" thing :p? Just get a gun (that shoots cancer).

Yeah... I don't really know exactly what emitter it is that comes with the Pocket Mini host. Just that they sell the same host with a Q5, and it acts the same. Weak with a 3.0 battery, but very bright with a 3.6 battery.

So I figure it is a Q5 or maybe an R2. It could be a P4 as well... I'm going to change the link to a Q5...

Well the pocket mini is a pretty good weapon in case someone messes with you at night. Not if they're many , or if he has a gun or knife. But in a hand to hand fight you can keep the bright light shining in his direction while keeping your guard up. If you have time for this it is a huge advantage. :p
I'm kinda dissapointed if this is a Q5 , I was hoping it was a P4 and the Q5 being way brighter. :D It is pretty damn bright nontheless. ::)

Anyway, on to more realistic scenarios, you're probably better off with a huge aluminum gun with a 3W c-mount nichia 405nm diode....it doesn't even have to have good beam specs, or hit his eyes. ::)
And sorry about the avatar, ripway is getting all g@y on me saying that I've exhausted my bandwidth again. :p

LOL.

Why don't you just host it somewhere else? imageshack.us / tinypic.com / LPF :) / etc.
