So according to Forbes, EDM events can be create a decent impact on the economy.

Do you think these shows would be anything special without the crazy light and laser shows? As it is proven that it is at night (When the laser shows combined with decent music production) push these people to purchase more drinks, food etc.

Personally, I wouldn't care about music festivals in the daytime. However, if the act (DJ / Producer) is good, and them lasers are on point with the music, the experience could be amazing.

Do you guys think lasers / light shows play a big part in these events and festivals?

The lasers and lighting simply adds to the atmospheric effect and this is all to do with mental stimulation. The music and surrounding noise stimulates our ears, and the lasers/lights stimulates our eyes. If timed right with the highlights of the track, they combine together to make a highly stimulative experience. Some of us can visualise music, and lightshows can sometimes please that aspect. For example, high speed scanning for high tempo songs, with intermittent strobe matching the repetition of the bass. And soothing lightwaves for the calmer aspects and more subtle of beats.
A good festival should be able to do without, and if they choose to include them then it is like putting a large cherry on top.

Interesting read, but $94 million is not a lot of money in the grand scheme of things. Put it this way, a SINGLE Led Zeppelin tour netted over $500 million dollars and if they toured today it would net over $1 billion. A mere $94 million spread across the entire EDM industry would employ a few thousand people and make the main talent a few million, enough for the workers to pay rent and the talent to buy a new house.

@HydroSean Great point. I can't imagine a group especially back in the day netting that kind of money. That's so incredible. I mean ofcourae it's Led Zeppelin but when there was no social media (I think even Internet wasn't around back then) and to pull in that kind of dough as musicians is mind boggling. Or their accountant must be a genius in calculus Proof that if you are actually talented, you can make it in the music industry (Whether as a music producer or as an artist). The keyword is talent ;)

@CurtisOliver, "A good festival should be able to do without" - I agree. However lasers just make it hella fun :)
