my ebay account was hacked yesterday or the day before.. i was browsin ebay the other day and later that day i signed out. the next day when i tried to login i couldnt log in, retreive my password, or anything else to do with my account. i spent a total of a little over an hour on the phone with ebay security trying to get everything straightened out. after i got it all straightened out i log in and find that im now selling a 2005 mercedes for 57,000$ :wtf:

luckily i wasnt selling anything at the time so i was able to spot it immediately after scrolling down the page. im not sure how someone got into my account b/c i havent been phished so they had to have got into it straight through ebay. i hope it doesnt happen to anyone else b/c the idiots at ebay take way too long to resolve the issue..

I'm more of a fan of the SL550 's :)

I've had a similar experience with eBay, someone tried to sell a bunch of John Deere tractor parts on my account. I got them all canceled and got the fees reversed.. one of the few things ebay is good at handling.

My account was somewhat of the opposite, it got hacked and someone bought a ton of computer parts on it and never paid for them.

Ok I am a "white-hat hacker" and have prevented this type of thing from these type of people. They use a "RAT or a Stealer" to take your information. All that they need for you to do is download there program and run it. If they are good they will have there virus crypted to make it undetectable by the antiviruses. Every time you log into something it will appear on there password list or be emailed to them. You do not have to be phished or anything. Read all about it how they do it Here it will help you prevent it happening to you. Look in the botnet and zombies section to help you understand better.

White hat means to prevent it. I started to look up hacking after my paypal got hacked and lost $100 dollars. Along with my youtube, Facebook, and messenger. :yabbmad:

How to avoid getting hacked.
1-Avoid clicking random links posted by spambots and chinese spammers leading to sites like www.free-pronz666.cn/
2-Don't download and run random .exe files unless they're from a trusted source.
3-Keep your anti-virus programs up to date.
4-Use hard passwords and don't use the same password for your paypal/email/ebay that you use for this forum or any other forum.
5-Watch out for phishing attempts.

Glad he didn't cause you any damage. Too bad that mercedes wasn't legit tho, I was so going to buy it off you & hope you toss in a free laser.

Its very unlikely that they got into your account straight through ebay (not that its totally impossible). Presuming that you never access your ebay account with a computer other then your own then you should work under the premise that it may be a virus/trojan. Run a couple different anti-virus / malware / rootkit scanners. Unfortunately rootkits can dig down so deep that scanners won't always see it, if you find nothing & want to be safe the only sure way is kinda what I would call slash&burn... Wipe & OS reinstall, rootkits can really get in That deep. You can backup any non-executable files of course.
Pain in the ass? Yep it certainly is.
Before resorting to that you could run Kaspersky Live off of a USB drive. I haven't checked if it handles rootkits that well at all but anything is worth a try before slash&burn. Its available in the Katana Security Suite. (Ophcrack is fun if you want to scare yourself & see how weak your windows password is)

If you have children that use a pc that you access ebay with then they may have caused your infection. A man-in-the-middle wifi attack is also possible but less likely.
I'm assuming you use windows here.

I know the difference between the white hat's and the black hat's dude.
Isn't the difference between them just that white hats keep you cooler in the summer but black hats make you Look cooler? :san: & santa hats make you look like a pedo that just wants kiddies to sit on your lap. :scowl:

Back a few years ago someone listed a motor home on mine, I never noticed, It was during a quiet period.

Ebay tried snagging an insertion fee, a really big insertion fee, I had to start all over with a new account, lost hundreds of primo seller feedback.:scowl:

My Ebay account got hacked a few years ago and I found out I had several laptops for sale that I didn't know about. Every time I tried to kill one of these phony auctions another would pop up, like pulling weeds and having more sprout up in their place. Luckily I got Ebay to cancel the bogus auctions and refund any fees. I think what happened in my case was that someone had just used some password cracking software, as my password was one of my pet's names and is commonly used as a name for people.

That's when I started using made up words for passwords and throwing in various symbols and numbers along with the letters. A password that's a bunch of nonsense is about the best you can get with regard to protecting yourself that way.

My Youtube account also got hacked a few months ago, and while there was nothing anyone could steal, the hacker apparently posted one or more videos that were racist, sexually explicit or something else in violation of Youtube's policies and I found out when the offending videos (which I never saw or were aware of) removed. I got all these warnings and suspension threats from Youtube yet all of the videos that were mine were intact and un-flagged, so I have no idea what sort of trash the hacker added to my account to compromise it. Unlike Ebay, I was unable to get the problem resolved and had to cancel my account and start over. Now the same video that had 30K views has only a couple thousand....sigh. Worse yet, now that they have that revenue sharing, I don't think I have enough views to get in on that. I would have been able to had not that a-hole ruined my Youtube account. Changed my password there to a harder one, not sure how the hacker got in (but my computer was infected with a virus at the time, which disabled my virus protection, so it could have been anything), I just hope it doesn't happen again.
