DIY LED Strobe - flash with music

how can i build a strobe that will beat with the music. i heard of using a 'clap' on/off circuit so as the bass hits the light turn on for that beat but does not stay on.

and, how about twinkeling effect. can you have it so you turn the pot up and it twinkles faster.

Just buy one.

There are quite a few sound active strobe lights about, just they are usually over £40.

You could just do that and buy a red light filter and cover over the front.
