LOL.. wow... hmm.. he probably used some sort of body filler.. or maybe fiberglass..
or something to create an outer shell over that foam after he was done..

which would actually make a decent shell.. and sound deadening would be no problem with all that foam.. :p

hmm.. very creative.. haha.

Back in 1982 I built a one of a kind car (no molds) of my own design...
that picked up 3rd prize in the 1982 Montreal Sports Car show
in my category of "Homebuilt Sport"...

I learned to do fiberglass while building it... (no previous knowledge)..

It was assembled using plywood bulkheads and 4' X 8' Polyurethane foam
sheets 1" thick... the inside and the outside of the foam care body was
fiberglassed before puttying...finishing... and paint...

For perspective... the top of the car was 42" off the ground...
Here's pic I scanned....

Thanks Niko...

Yeah... way back then it was the talk of the neighborhood...
The "Illussion" used to be a yellow 1969 Volkswagen beetle...
It had a Porsche 2 liter engine.. and the doors opened by hydraulic
cylinders.. so no door handles...
I designed a magnetic keylock entry system so that I didn't need to
make more holes for standard key locks...

The top was so low... that there was no rear view window... so I
installed a rear view Vidicon Video Camera... That was something rare
in 1982..

You needed to enter a code on a keypad on the center console to start the
engine.. (remember...no keys)

People must've thought you were from the future. Not many cars have those features yet!

You were basically lying on the hand made seats... 42" high is not a lot
of room...

Oh forgot to add... it had an electronic dash including a Digital Speedometer..
Digital and bargraph Tachometer... a long with some purchased digital guages..

That foam car is insane. I really like its long sweeping curves on the back end, the front leaves something to be desired. Its amazing how symetrical he was able to keep it considering he molded it from foam. The last pic that shows the rear of the car is my fav :D

A number of airplanes are built with fiberglass over foam. Very strong.

Jerry -- Nice car -- sorta like a Delorian !!!
