Blarg King.
We have 2 dogs! A mini fox terrier and a tenterfield terrier. The funny thing is they usually bark at anything! But our bedroom is up one end of our house and the part which they broke into is all the way at the other.

I may sound like bit of a nut here,

But you don't think that's oddly well executed for a random robbery?

They also took all your lasers... that were in a steel case. Why steal a hard to break into case, the contents of are most likely some documents or whatever, without knowing that something actually valuable is inside?

I'm terribly sorry to raise any panic or paranoia but I just had to point this out :undecided:

What makes me think it was random was the fact that my new 200mW 520nm C3 was sitting on the shelf next to the case along with handfulls of 18650's 18350's etc and my nitecore i4. If they were specifically going for the lasers they would have taken that too yeah?
The case wasn't like a big steel case it was like this..

Just a bit bigger and lined with foam. It "looked" expensive and they may have thought there was another laptop in it or something?

I live only a few suburbs away from what is considered one of the worst suburbs in my state and has alot of breakin's etc.. One of my old neighbour had his car stolen from out the front of his house one night, then they came back the next night and took everything from his house..

I decided long ago that when I own my own home I'm going to electrify all access points as a security measure. Nothing lethal, just enough to deter. I have no idea if it is legal, and I suspect there will be a lot of practical issues (rain, accidental shocks, etc), but I haven't found anything else that truly deters theft. A friend of mine had his home broken in to and the burglars stole his security system off of the wall. We suspect they ripped it off to disable the alarms and such, but then they just decided to take it as well! Oh, and his doors were deadbolted, but they broke through the door with such force that the frame was shattered.

wow that whole 3 safe gun thing is stupid. though having one doen't help if you're asleep. I am willing to bet the thieves know nothing of lasers. hopefully they will pick the strongest one and look into it. or, since you are in AU, they will be dumb and get busted with them.

I am so sorry your laws make being a victim easy, and being a perp easier.

let's jedi mind trick this Fu**** into lowering his testicles into a paper shredder:tsk::gun::knight::spank::twak::lasergun:

Man, this is heartbreaking.

If you find this guy listing your stuff in a classified advert, maybe you can get some friends to help you set up an ambush.

I grew up in Detroit, Michigan. My parents always had dogs, and we never got hit, even though our neighbours on all sides had been robbed, so I'm shocked that you say you have two dogs and this still happened. All of the talk about guns seems like it is kind of moot, to me, if you didn't even know that they were there until after they had left - if you had had guns, you'd just have one more stolen thing to worry about. Most thieves are pretty cowardly, though, so keeping a cricket bat next to the bed, in case they venture into your bedroom next time, might be a good idea. Actually, an ultrabright torch next to the bed might be more effective in stunning the bad guys.

Anyway, it's too late for that kind of talk now. I just hope you figure out a way to get your lasers back.

Knowing what Aust Law is like {stupid}, most probably if they get hurt by the Lasers they stole, they can turn around and sue him.
Lets hope they don't hurt themselves but are caught and the items returned.
This is heartbreaking to read, I'm sorry this happened and hope you recover your lost property soon.

Thanks again guys.

Yeah our laws are stupid. It's true, if they hurt themselves with it and went to the hospital i would most likely get sued for them hurting themselves!!!

I am keeping my eye out on places like gumtree.com.au and ebay for them. Hopefully they are half smart enough to try and sell them.

This is why i have motion sensing cameras pointed at each entrance and multiple friends who work for the RCMP, if you break into my house expect me to catch you, and im not going to be happy when i track you down.

Sorry to hear that man, i hope you had insurance.

I have ordered 2 stealth cameras for inside and 2 overtly obvious domes for outside that send their signal back to the Hdd recorder via wifi.

Also, no insurance unfortunately..

9 out of 10 times its friends of friends or neighbors that know the layout of your house. Because you were home its unlikely it was random.

Check the classifieds, second hand shops and pawn shops too. I would not mention lasers to the police.

Its all just stuff. It could have been much worst. You can get stuff back but you cant get your life back.

Some tips.

Always lock your doors.

Buy 6 inch screws and replace the short ones in your deadlock and door lock jam plate. Screw them in at an angle till they hit the actual 2X4 inner frame of the door. Get some of these too. Defender Security Lock and Door Reinforcer Brass | eBay Both long screws and a lock reinforcers are cheap deterrents. You can also print up some ADT security signs.

Dont be a show off or brag about your stuff to people.

There are a lot of random break in's in my area but i know what you mean about the friends/of neighbours thing..

I have been looking everywhere and have told most of the hock shops in my state about my goods and their serial numbers. So if they do try to we'll catch them.

99.999% of the time the doors are locked. One of us must have left the back door open after letting the dogs out to the toilet. I also have one of the best locks available for the front door but those reinforcer's look good! And cheap for what they do.
We do have a full house motion detecting security system but only use it when we leave the house because the dogs get up sometimes and walk around.

And lastly, i have never really been a show pony.. I rarely show people my "good things"

I would check eBay for bluray lots, or one seller selling the same movies you lost, or purse, or ps2, suitcase, etc, etc.

I have put this in the feedback thread as well but also wanted to put it here so you could all see it.

--------
I just want to bring everyone's attention to something that sinner did for me recently.

Just before my break in I had been saving for a while to get some host's off sinner and some diodes.

During the break in the money got stolen (among other things) and I told sinner it would be a while before I could save up the money again.

He then messaged back and told me he would send my order and I could pay him back as soon as I was financially stable enough!

That is only the FIRST act of kindness from this great man!

Then the other day when the package turned up it was much larger than expected..
When I waded through all the bubble wrap I found bags full of contact boards, springs, wire, diode presses and most surprising of all bags of diodes! not crappy ones either! I was stumped.

So this is to sinner..

THANK YOU! Your kindness and generosity has given me faith in the world once again.

Ahhh takes me back when I was supposed to buy only some LM1117 chips from billg519.

Got a solid two kilos of electronic, optical and various laser goodies. In just a first box.

Kudos to sinner!
