Random guess, but to get that kind of bang from 500g I'm thinking it may be some sort of flash powder. The thing in the beginning looks like it may be some mix with aluminum or magnesium... then again, I don't really have any idea! (yeah, aren't I useful :p)

I guess we'll just have to wait for meowcow to stop by and clear up the mystery.

Pseudo, Have you ever heard a real M-80 go off? Those are about 50g of flash powder. I can definitely see him getting that kind of explosion out of 500g

50g? M80s only have 3 grams of flash and those things have a heck of a bang.

Personally, I mix a 95/5 ratio of ammonium nitrate to blackhead aluminum, very intimately, and fill easter eggs with them. You can buy both on eBay, or with a ballmill, mill Aluminum foil and AN fertilizer. All from wal-mart...

They make great targets for shooting since the eggs are cheap, fluorescent, and innocently covered in flowers!

That mix requires a shockwave of 2750 f/s or higher to detonate. It is just slightly more powerful than dynamite.

Confined flash (I.E. M80) will detonate it as well, good flash has a shockwave of ~3700 f/s.

Buy an Estes rocket, salvage the electric igniter, and rewire a cell phone, and voila! Remote detonation!

And, by the way, it is legal to make this stuff, but technically not to store it or use it in any state where it is illegal to use noisemaker type fireworks.

PS: Its illegal to light firecrackers in Idaho, but its legal to sell them, so don't think cause your state sells em its legal

Well I know that making flash salutes are REALLY illegal (leagl limit .05g, M80s have 3 grams) but I think you can get away with AN/AL easter eggs if you shoot them cause tannerite is legal. And man those easter eggs make one heck of a bang when you shoot them.

Two years ago here we had the PGI convention. Some dude making three salutes turned his camper into a placemat in a park. KCl and alum dust is a bad mix !! I'm guessing 3 oz of Pflash !!!

Man I can't wait till I can drive so I can go to a PGI convention. But yeah I've messed with some KClO4/Al before and I'm glad I stopped before I did something stupid. Man 3oz is enough to do some horrible damage. Heck 1% of that confined is enough to blow some fingers off.

I made a teaspoon full once and set it off in the driveway unconfined.  Way too much --  But on the 4th, I'll be loading the big stuff.  6 barges, special venue...
3" up to 12" shells off 14,000 pound boats !!!  1,500 to 1,600 shells.
OH -- Thanks for reminding me --- KClO4 !!!

This 4th I am going up to McCall... They have the 7th best fireworks show in the US (IIRC), lasts about 45 minutes-- Constant firing of aerial shells... 4" to 12" throughout, 20" in the finale. So much stinking money spent on that! :D

Probably the coolest, coolest, freaking coolest thing I have ever made (I am entertained by small stuff) is these cute little 1/2" x 1/2" red stars... Mix as follows:

KCLO4: 14%
Sr(NO3)2: 50%
Hexamine: 13%
Magnesium, coarse: 4%
Magnesium, +350m: 6%
Aluminum, ~400m Atomized 4%
PVC/Parlon: 9%

They may smell like dead fish, but one of those tiny stars (which costs about 2.5 cents) burns for over 7 seconds. No idea about how much candlepower it puts out, but it illuminates a +9' circle! (At night) Plus, it throws some nice sparks. Laser ignition, anyone?  :D :D ;D

I wish i knew where i could get some 3" to 4" shells. The loudest artillery shells i have heard that are in the "legal" spectrum are called "Quick Nick Big Bang Artillery Shells". They are fing loud.

Here is a video of what i want...all i can say is HOLY SHIT...check it out:

If you have good speakers/headphones crank it!
