Best fish tank under 5 gal for saltwater

I mean you guys keep saying that so I keep looking at youtube videos but i dont know about you but this look like a decent small tank YouTube - 3 gallon reef tank

You can keep a pair of gorgeous Colbalts and a Clown Loach. Brackish and easy. Avoid Pacus- Oscars- Terrors-unless you want a lone fish or maybe a pair.

The last thing I would do is spend my $$$ on new- somebody up there prolly will give you all you need except the fish for 10 cents on the dollar Vs new. Dats what i did.

You don't see everything He could have another tank in the stand to increase carrying capacity. Also He could be extremely experienced in saltwater. Do you all remeber the saltwater tank in piccard's office? That fish was replaced every week!!!

My opinion is that if you want a few clown fish and a damsel, you are going to need much more than a 6 gallon tank.
I suggest nothing smaller than 20 gallons for those three saltwater fish.

I just looked up the dimensions and the 12 gal would be huge to put on my night stand, The 8 gal would be perfect!!

I have been doing marine fish for 21 years and I wouldn't have a tank smaller than 20gal. I currently have a 70 gal. and a 20 gal. for my hospital tank, but I am thinking about going back to tropical fish since I don't have the time to take care of the saltwater. The smaller the tank the more work it is to keep it balanced, fresh water is a lot easier. Saltwater fish cost a lot more than freshwater or brackish fish and are a lot harder to care for. I used to raise Angel fish for 15 years before I got in to saltwater.
Part of the problem with the marine tank is your filter equipment costs a lot more not to mention your sea salt, Nova Aqua, marine test kit, protein skimmer and this is not all of it. Just setting a marine tank on a night stand is not good since you do a lot more water changes and have a chance of ruining your night stand. I recently lost all of my saltwater fish except for my spotted puffer, I put some other fish in with him but he kills everything I put in the tank. The fish I lost were a blue Tang, 2 yellow Tangs, Sailfin Tang, a Wrasse and my favorite was my Lionfish. I was gone for 3 days and when I got home they were all dead for no obvious reason and the puffer is fine.

Don't trust everything you see on you tube, just because they show a 3 gal tank doesn't mean it will last longer than 3 days to a week. Just some advice.

You guys keep saying how hard it will be to maintain a 8 gal saltwater, but I have a question. How much do you think it will cost me (not including the fish and aquarium) to get a 8 gal saltwater up and running. I was watching a vid on youtube and a guy said he had close to $1000 wrapped up in his 8 gal saltwater. So if it is gonna cost me that mcuh I'll just go tropical or brackish. All of your guys input and opinions REALLY help :beer:

I would guess-timate around 500 minimum with the Tank and accessories.

Since tanks are three dimensional, and a given length is one dimensional, a 6 gallon will only look (6/3)^(1/3) bigger.
So a 6 gallon will only "look" about 25% bigger in any single dimension.

I would agree a minimum of $500 to $800 for salt water start up.
