Lol my family are the same, I was sitting shining my 30mW laser at my skin and they were like STOP your gonna end up with skin cancer, and I was like no, its normal light, so they argued back by saying that you get skin cancer from the light from the sun, so I had to explain that was because of UV rays and how they were different. I also had to explain that the colour could not be changed to many people.

yeah i guess t here really is no simple way to explain it to a noob. you can try to draw out the color spectrum and show them where UV is and then show them where 532nm is.

I want an xray laser or xray flashlight. be in the dark, shine it through someone, lol.

Haha cancer is my favorite one to argue! People just don't seem to understand, and I normally have to resort to laymans-laymans terms to explain it.

"No, this is just green light. It can't give you cancer."
"Well, then what makes a laser all... Lasery?"
"It's the same as any other green light except it is all focused and the beam only goes in one direction."
"Then how does it burn stuff?"
"Its like using a magnifying glass and the sun... it's focused."
"But the sun can give you cancer."

Then I normally end the conversation with something like,
"Well, everything can give you cancer. Even plastic."
Then I change the subject out of frustration.

Yeah, I was gonna make the Mt. Rushmore pic... haha

I like it when people ask me if it can blind someone after I demonstrate burning wood. ::)
"Well, you would think that if it can burn wood and melt plastic it could burn your retina..."

Here's an idea, you could have a pic of someone being shot with one and it's having a similar effect to being shot by a pistol. Or you could have someone shooting out a tire of a car. You could have them shooting out cameras at a bank.
