I never got in to the Lanthanated electrodes but I was a major supporter of the 2% Ceriated. They outperform both thoriated and pure tungsten on nonferrous metals and produced a more stable arc for ferrous metals. You have to change your electrode diameter from standard though as Ceriated can't handle the same current, but you can grind it more acutely to still get the same precision.

Thorium has become a previous commodity in recent years and that's likely to do with the shortage.
