Gah, you just had to say taint, didn't you. (perineum)

Some people think about the insanely large items in the universe and feel insignificant... I prefer to think about the the profusely small items that make up everything (quarks, electrons, photons, etc), and how there are billion upon billions upon billions of them in every single one of my cells and how everything comes together beutifully and just works to do whatever I want to do with the particles I own.

Love this stuff. We are pretty insignificant in the large (and small) scale of things. Kind of gives you a new perspective on our everyday problems...

I've always liked that clip from Contact that TJ posted. I don't know if any any of the work on filaments and the large structure of the universe was actually published at the time of that movie (don't think it was), but check out this clip... things start to look pretty organic on the ultra-large scale... then go back and watch the last part of clip from Contact when they zoom out of the little girl's eye...

Freaky!
