That was a heavy impact. I hope nobody is killed by the meteorite.

That was a heavy impact. I hope nobody is killed by the meteorite.

It looks like most of the 900+ injuries were from flying glass (from the shockwave of the impact) and panicked evacuation accidents

Over 40 people were hospitalized

The meteorite broke up in the atmosphere so there were many smaller impacts as well

There is one cool shot of a huge hole in the ice on a lake in the area

Peace,
dave

Today is the day for that close flyby. I wonder if this was just a small piece flying around with it.

That video is of the "Door to Hell" in Uzbekistan
It's been burning for about 35 years
It was intentionally set afire after a mining accident

Today is the day for that close flyby. I wonder if this was just a small piece flying around with it.

They are unrelated
They were on totally different orbital planes
The close fly by will basically go south to north past us
The meteorite in Russia went east to west

Peace,
dsave

I really wish it happened on this side of the planet. I need new windows and that would just be a great excuse. Also, how messed up it sounds, but i would have loved to freak out for a good hour before i realized it wasnt getting any worse. Im an adrenaline junkie.

I'm surprised it landed in a populated area, considering most of the earth is uninhabited. This one was only 10 tons, it's scary to imagine what a bigger one would've done.

Damn! Next time this happens we should all bust our lasers out and burn the meteorite before it burns us.
