I just received it a couple of days ago, and I've gotta tell you this thing is AWESOME !!  I can't believe how bright this thing is for a torch.  I can completely light up a 4m tall concrete wall from 200m away better than the street lights that are only 5m away from it.  See pics of it below, I need to get some action shots of it which I will add later.

Holy crap Morepower, you really are living up to your name! :)

3500 lumens! $500 ! You sir, are a serious photon whore... (and I mean that in the most respectful way, of course!) ;D

My old HID bike light used to get super-hot on humid August nights, so I can imagine you could fry an egg with that thing. No wonder it's so vented and heat-sinked. Must scare the hell out of your neighbours too!

Have fun with it... and signal the space station once for me willya? :D

Can that thing burn stuff like the wicked lasers torch? I imagine you would get a nice burn if you left your hand in front of it for a while. Imagine looking into it
Btw what do you do if the bulb burns out? Dx doesn't sell replacement bulbs for these.

The reflector is a bit crappy, I hear that it takes a lot of juice out of the torch, is that true? It does seem like it would contribute to the heating.

To bad you got a frosted reflector in it, a perfectly smooth reflector is better suited for hid's, it may not be as nice of an output but it allows it to put out much more light and throw alot farther than any frosted reflector could.

I've already ordered a spare globe from here https://www.fenix-store.com/index.php?cPath=63_75 just in case parts disappear. The torch from Wicked Wankers is Halogen not HID(high intensity discharge), though the lens does get hot enough to fry an egg/burn your hand after about 10-15mins of run time.

LOL @ Curiously_Coherent  ;D ;D  Selling my body for photons, that's a thought  ;D ;D ;D  It's all jayrobs fault for getting me into torches !!

bob1122 and wooooooolazer yeah I don't like the reflector either so I am considering polishing it and/or having a chat to my mate who does mirror re-silvering, maybe he could coat it after I buff it ?  I'll try polishing the back of the reflector first and see how that comes up.

The torch isn't as big as I was expecting(see pic)  and puts out more light than I thought it would for it's size.

No beam/action shots I'm afraid as I've F@#KED the reflector so I need to get it re-plated or something. It's bloody cast alloy so it can't be polished. On a good note though before I stuffed it I did some Lux measurements. At 1m I got 53,000Lux, my best LED torch with a Q5 emitter does 3,800Lux which would be about right at ~260 Lumens. I should be able to get alot more out of it with the right coating on the reflector instead of that frosty one it came with.

They sell spraypaint that is a very shiny chrome color, i have used it on a reflector and it worked great, you just need to find the shiniest one they sell, it might also come in regular paint form.

Ah it's ok I,ve managed to polish it up. They must have sand blasted the reflector so the paint they used stuck properly, it made it look pitted like cast alloy looks like. Anyway it kicks ass now I got a reading of 92,000Lux and I have a little more work to do on it yet.

From 53,000 lux to 92,000 lux [smiley=vrolijk_26.gif]

Does it make it look noticeably brighter?
