Seriously, are all these I am about to reach xxxx posts, threads really required? What ever happened to the old rule of posts in off-topic not counting towards the post-count?

1,000 posts in 6 months with nothing more than , :-( , I MIGHT buy that, great pictures , etc is a waste of time and bandwidth.

I'll third this as well. I think that if it doesn't have to do with lasers than no up in post count. Just my opinion though.

Maybe the problem is with the people that take this as a REAL competition. I think none of us do really feel better for having more or less posts nor think they are better than other ones because of their post count.
Post count means nothing lol, will we have to just delete it?

I wouldn't mind all posts in the "Other" section not being counted.
I don't mind people saying "Thanks for that", "Those are some great pictures", etc now and then, as long as they don't do it purely to get their post count up. Sometimes it's nice to get some feedback even if it isn't loaded with constructive criticism.
I don't really care about my own or other people's post counts either - just like the Rep system, it doesn't say very much about the member's value to the forum.
The only thing I am against is people who openly spam or constantly write short posts which do not contribute anything purely to increase their post count.. That is one reason I stopped posting on the Three Word Story thread.. it seemed like people just posted non-stop every day to get their post count up, not even trying to make a story.
