What's the market for the 1 Watt 445nm diodes from the XJ-A140? I am thinking of buying the projector and harvesting the diodes, but I want to find the market for them before I throw away $850!

Edit: I bought the projector, harvested the diodes, and am getting ready to start selling soon. No need for this thread anymore

The market?
Laser DIY-ers. Most are here on this site, but you could always try to sell the diodes on eBay.

Honestly It's going to be hard to find a market here since you dont have many posts or rep. Most members are going to stick with the tried and true veterans rather than risk trying you. No offense but we have no knowledge of your skill at extracting these things and how often you might kill one, not to mention whether or not you can deal with potted diodes.

I know Daguin sells his for about 50$ and DTR about 46$ and some other around there. If you wanted to start a group buy for less than either of those you might get some hits but its still worth a shot I think, If nothing bites then dont buy the projector :p

They USED to sell for 38.50 before sellers started to go ape-shit on the price. The Projectors you can find for $650

650/24= 27.08 and a third.. That means that the people selling diodes are making $20 a piece. Roughly.

$20*24=480

That means that they are earning a shit ton per projector.

Sounds like they are earning a fair sum, huh? If you got the money, but a projector, use what you can get and sell the rest and you will STILL make a shit ton.

Seems like the 650 was a sale price, sorry, So for 850.

850/24=35.41

Say they sell for 46

Thats $10 profit per diode.

10*24 = 240 in profit.

Takes about 1 Hr at most to take it apart. 240/hour is good wages still :)

plus the time it takes to package orders equals more time than 1 hour.

Haha putting them in Anti static bags, heat sealing putting in bubble wrap takes less than a minute. =P If It takes longer than that, I am not sure what you are doing :)

Packaging is about a dollar. Mail is 2 PP, lets say 3.. So 4$..

I guess I can see it. What happened to that sale for the ones at 650?

That is what makes it a real pain.

Plus you have to pay for envelopes, and packaging, and time off work to drive to the post office. It nickels and dimes it's way up there fast.

I sold them at about $2 above cost for a while, and it was incredibly thankless work. I could sell them again for $10 over, but to be honest I have better things to do with my time.

Plus dealing with the endless retarded e-mails, and people filing chargebacks if the diodes don't show up exactly 6 hours after they send a payment....
I sure won't be doing that again

Edit: Alright, smartass. Since you know everything why don't you run a few group buys at cost. That is if you can manage to touch a diode without killing it.

I messed up my math man, I appreciate it. Relax Bro. I said I see it, I forgot about other factors. Alright?
I didn't know the projectors cost $200 more now.

That's your problem. You don't ever think, you just type.

Yeah I don't keep up with projector prices. My bad. Thanks Proto.

I wish we could all not make mistakes like you.

You should check how much Proto posts. He only posts when he knows what he's talking about, instead of posting in every single thread ever opened.

Aaron, I wish you luck. It doesn't inspire much confidence in your buyers when you mention keeping other diodes in case you break some though...

(And Proto still gets things wrong sometimes :na:)

@AAron, Sweet deal bro, the biggest thing is to take your time, and if it doesn't look right, redo it.
