Re: PLUG & PLAY CO2 BURNING LASERS only $150 DELIV

What are the dimensions on these things? I may have to have one...but how is it going to be coming into Oz???????

Also how are the optics in these things? They're not water sensitive and need to be dried etc etc before use like the other CO2 tubes?? Fairly sturdy???

thanks,

Dan

They are air cooled and have a sturdy construction similar to hene tubes. Optics are standard co2 laser optics made of znse which is not water soluble.

Re: PLUG & PLAY CO2 BURNING LASERS only $150 DELIV

Bum  :-[ I needed to finalise a few things before I could go ahead with getting one of these.....looks like I missed the boat.

I may as well put forward what I was aiming to do and see if the experts on gassers think it would work.
I have been asked by a sawmill to come up with a low cost laser engraver for wood, I planned to use a computer controlled flatbed XY plotter and a CO2 laser, I have the following questions:-

1) can the focus lens be anywhere along the beam?
2) can the laser be, equivelent to, TTL blanked? (if not I was thinking shutter blanked)
3) can standard first surface mirrors be used?

Drawing shows the idea, without showing any covers, fans or safety features. The wood would sit in a frame above the unit with the beam hitting it from below.

Any thoughts welcome.

I thought it said on the front page that they were all gone :-/

I still don't know if the project is a runner though, I cannot afford to buy on spec..........
No one has come back to me on the idea posted 4up /\ anyone?
This would be my first go at a gasser and I am in the dark here...

Rog:
You should put the focus lens close to the thing you are engraving and the laser could be some distance away as long as the beam is close enough so that all of it gets on the lens. Build some kind of nozzle in front of the lens and use compressed air that blows out through the hole that the beam exits so you don´t get smoke and particles on the lens.

These assembly seems to have logic level PWM control that is more or less the same as TTL-blanking. This can be controlled from most CNC software like Mach3.

I think the lenses and mirrors should be specifically made for infrared 10.6um, other coatings may melt...glass mirrors for example!

The idea is to have the item to be engraved sat over the lens, that way you can engrave any thickness material without having to refocus the lens and the size of item is not limited by the size of the plotter as it can overhang on all sides. (your next quote applies here as well)

Nozzle.......air flow.......so you don´t get smoke and particles on the lens.
That is one unasked question answered, thanks :)

I am a member of CNC-zone and will be asking questions there soon, I now have the XY plotter (as I got it for less than $1 It was too good to miss).
I am working on getting a D-to A converter to run it at the moment and, until I have budget to work with, I will see what I can do with a Highish powered IR LD.

My very last unit w/driver electronics is currently on EBAY right now. This GB is now over & done with. I do however have 2 tubes with transistor installed that run off of a CB radio and a 10A 32V power supply.

How exactly do they run off a CB radio? would it be inexpensive to set up?
