No, April 20th definitely has some significance.

Lets just say some people won't need a fog machine to see the beam that day.

On the lavadrive2 it was mentioned that it's designed for a single 18650 (unless I misunderstood), how will this work in the barrel, it appears the barrel is designed for 2 batteries?

The 18650 and 2 CR123As are about the same size, the barrel fits both combinations.

Is there a seperate group buy begining for the "Lava Drive 2" drivers? I will likley be ordering a couple of barrels, but I would like a couple additional of these new drives for running a blue ray without a 9-volt battery, in a different host.

One other question about the lavadrive2 it says it works with the blu-ray diodes but is that with the 18650 battery since the voltage from what I can tell is only 3.6v on 18650's? Or is the voltage also variable some how?

Do you think there is anyway that I could easily incorporate a thumb button instead of the tail clicky? All my current burners have tail switches and I am growing less and less fond of them and really like the thumb buttons(Dorcy style, but doesn't have to be that nice). But all my hosts make it impossible to add thumb switch without having to redo the whole battery compartment. If you think I could easily add a thumbswitch I would be interested in one.

Ok i'm confused about a thumb button. I'm assuming your referring to a switch on the outside diameter of the barrel and not on the end. Because the dorcy has both styles. Most of the dorcy's I've seen have tail mounted buttons. Perhaps you can elaborate on it's location.

The driver that lava has designed is also a boost circuit meaning it boosts the voltage from the 3.6v of a 18650 to the necessary voltage to drive the bluray. it really is a magnificient driver.

Will you be running another one soon?

Sorry, i guess it's just the 2 dorcy flashlights i have have a nice thumb button, like the one in this pic.  I know I obviously wouldn't be able to make it look like this, but even with a micro tactical switch or something, just for location wise.  the problem I have is with the way the battery compartment being too tied to the tail cap switch.  And the flashlights I have with thumb switch either hold the worng size/type/number of batteries, or there is not enough room to put  a driver into.  Now if on this GB barrel, if I could leave the tail clicky in the on position, but have the option to drill a hole in the side and epoxy in a thumb switch without affecting the battery compartment or positive battery contact, etc I would be interested.

Edit: BTW, I think your design is really really nice! And the 3d drwaings of it are very cool, I just really want a thumb button. I simply find the tail clickys awkward to use.

Sounds pretty cool, count me in as another interested in getting this driver with the barrels.

I'm curious about one other thing, if I understand correctly the diode presses into the barrel's head. Is this similar to how the diodes press in/out of the Axis modules as far as the legs are hanging out of a hole? Also is it about the same tightness as the axis modules requiring a vise or something to press it in there?

as far as the diode press fitting in place.  it is tighter than an aixiz.  but exactly the same style.

If you really want to take the time to add in a side mounted button that's up to you. it's fairly simple to mount your barrel in a drill press and drill a hole through the side of the barrel into the driver chamber. there is plenty of room inside there to accomodate a button. I just havn't solved the few issues I have with putting one there. You can then leave the tailcap on constantly and only use the side button and your on/off. or you can use it as a safety feature in so much that you cannot operate teh laser if both switches aren't turned on.
