I also wanted a kryton goove as you remember. But you said you still had not enough after completing the first run. Are you allowing people to reserve by paying already?

Hey Kenom,

Have you thought about a Groove Upgrade kit? In essence it would be just a new diode module, which would screw directly into the kryton groove, but be wider and much longer, like the RPL front end you have envisioned for the beast, with 3 plates, one 5.6 one 9 and one c-mount, which could be interchanged. If it would be big enough it could hold a massive diode, maybe even replace the need for the beast as a new stand alone version?

I always wanted to make a blue DPSS... the beast is perfect!! I thought you said somewhere that we can pop in our own crystals?

I've thought about using parts and upgrade kits and such for the Grooves but it defeats the main benefit of the barrels in that the heatsink isn't layers of metal for diminished thermal transfer. The biggest advantage of the groove is that the diode and lens goes into the heatsink not into a module that then fits into the heatsink. You then have a gap that defeats thermal conductivity. So while the plate idea is a sound one, it's not something I'm going to persue for this reason alone.

You could always use thermal paste, as long as its not the cheap stuff, I dont believe the difference would be much, if any.

OH yes it will. Any gap or space even if it's filled with silver or diamond thermal goop will still not be as an efficient transfer as no gaps or spaces. Now the factor is not going to be that bad. Using thermal grease that is good stuff (diamond or silver) will help but it still won't be as good.

I would agree if the outside heatsink and diode module were small having less mass. Considering the massive chunk of alum. that is the barrel, the module would have no choice but to remain cool.

I taper fit my heatsinks in that the axiz module tightens as it reaches its seat point, there is almost no need for a set screw. As long as you keep the tolerances low, you could run the diodes just as hard, and doubt the one in the axiz would suffer any.

I got a 3W c-mount for $70 so im toltally pumped for the beast.

From Where!?

What do you all use to drive high power C-mount diodes?

Just showing off a few Kryton Groove builds.

This first picture is my new personal matched set.  The violet is putting out 235mW of blu-ray and the red is putting out 275mW.

This one is a build for a customer.  It is putting out 195mW of beautiful violet light.

Thanks again for all of your hard work getting these into our hands, Kenom.

Peace,
