Delivery of PL-C's should be today. Cleared customs yesterday, and on the truck for delivery as we speak. w00t!

Hey man, the beam profile of PL-C 445nm is not rounded and the focusable features that enables us to adjust the beam size much bigger would highlight the rectangle shape of the beam spot a lot more, so Hak and I feel obliged to inform you of this first. I will explain more later. Thanks!

Hey Gray.

how do you think the life on these will be at these powers?
And, also, I forget - which diodes did you guys use again ?

Still trying to decide what to go with in GB#4 :)

Hey guys, thanks for all your patience and understanding for this GB3 which has been delayed for nearly a century ever since. Thanks to Hak's help, it finally got shipped and delivered. :)

But I need clarify something on these 405nms and 445nms before you receive the one you paid for. We deeply apologize if any feature in these lasers fail you in any way possible and would like to provide a replacement or refund at any time.

1. The beam of 445nm is not rounded but rectangular.
Sorry. We didnot use thelens that can improve the beam profile coz they promise no high transmission and would sacrifice the output power. We would work on improving the beam shape and homogenization now.

The beam shape might also improve a lot by putting the lens closer to the diode but the beam might diverge more that way. Every lens has its best collimating distance.

2. The focus adjustabe feature makes the beam spot shape of PL-C 445nm worse.
This is undebatable. It allows to adjust the beam spot to 10x or more times bigger. The beam spot would look a lot more rectangular when it's completely defocused.

3. The focusing route of P-C 405nm and 445nm differs a bit from that of PL-C 532nm.
Regarding of PL-C 532nm, the focusing route is long enough and we can realize that they are nearly not focused when turned on at default state. The focus is very far away. And if it's set nearer the aperture at default, the beam divergence would be a lot bigger. It provides a decent collimated beam while the long enough focusing route just provides a option to adjust the focal distance....from far far away to the nearer-to-aperture space. When we screw the focusing mechanism to the end, the focal distance/focus is around 3-5cm close to the aperture(at this point, the focusing route seems to be on its end and no long able to stretch any more. See the attached pic.

However, the biggest issue with PL-C 405/445nm is that they share the same focusing mechanism with PL-C 532nms But don't share the same focusing route. The focusing route of the existing mechanism is too long for them. So the focus is not that easy to locate and when you screw the focusing part to the end, you will find the beam size is still big enough at aperture and it seems that the focus is lost but the beam size is terribly big. Yes, the focus at this point is turned in. So, this method of pulling the focus nearest to aperture is too much for pinpointing the focus of these 405nms.

The focal distance of PL-C 405nms is much shorter and no sooner would you begin adjusting the mechanism than the focal point is pinpointed. Around 1-2mm's route! So, any more turning forwards would drive the beam away from the focus point.

The advice is to wear the goggles and find the subtle focal point slowly. Dont have to screw the focusing mechanism all the way to the end since the focusing route designed for PL-C 532nm here is too long to be good for 445nm or 405nm PL-C. Use the goggles and it will find the focus easier.

Deep apologies for any inconvenience and we might have some lasers back for fix or repair to make it more 'focusable'. The pain of waiting has been tortures all of us but let's at least make the waiting more worthwhile!! Thanks!

Best regards,
Gray

Hey aryntha,
You mean the diode life or the duty cycle?
For 405nm, we use the extracted diodes out of SF-BW512P SLED, while for 445nm, we use the A140 diode from Hak. :)

This GB3 is not all over yet since you havenot received the laser yet and there are several problem to solve for these lasers such as the focusing. No rush. :) Thanks!

Well, that is a bit dissapointing, but thankyou for keeping me in the know. I am confident from what I have heard of you guys that this will be rectified.

Even CNI isn´t able to create ~1W 445nm lasers with a nice round dot.

Hey Andrew,
If you are not particular about the rounded shape beam, this 900mw+ 445nm might not be that bad. As we have seen wickedlasers' 1w 445nm and other 445nm products, the beam are all kinda rectangular. This would be times more evident if they are also focus adjustable. Sure there are ways to improve the beam profile but it might be difficult to achieve a higher power and better profile with the multimode 445nm diode. So there might be a trade-off. :)

Thanks Phi.
I believe they can find ways to make a round dot but it may take a longer while that is not worth it. Their lasers are not focus adjustabe and the non-roundness is not that evident. It can be neglected and ignored. Sure they should do their best to make it more rounded, so should every one of us.
:)

You guys should experience more with correction optics

CNI won´t, but hey - we have Gray&friends here

Hey Gray, Wicked and CNI could learn a thing or two from JetL. If you keep on your current path, your company will be around for a long time!

Okay,
As you all know now our PL-C arrived yesterday afternoon. I was up til 3:30 AM messing with them. I put the other parts of my life on hold(yes I still do have a life outside of lasers---sorta--lol)

Before I put post-its with our names on them in a random fashion, I checked to see which ones were not altered for key removal in the 'on' position. Unfortunitly all were altered. Not the end of the world or a deal breaker so I proceded to assign them.

First however I checked the sole PL-C in 445 nm for Andrew(Whodunit) The lens chosen by JETL gives great power but the have inherient rectangle beam shape is not changed. Most of us have read the many posts and threads on this topic and AFAIK there is no lens available that can have a perfect result. Some are more expensive and poorer shape and less loss of mWs(G-1) some have a little power loss but better shape( AixiZ) and some smoke and melt--(arcylic). Aixiz is about to offer a new 400-450nm lens BTW.
I am fwding pics to Andrew so he can exercise his options. I have carefully checked the focusing and at 6 meters the 'spot' is a rectangle about 4 inches wide and 12 inches long at its smallest.
Then I began testing the 405s with my only pair of batteries-( I had four but two refused to take a full charge) thus the reason it took many hours waiting for re-charging, then the 9 v on one of my LPMs died followed by the same on my other lpm and of course I had no new 9vs on-hand.(my bad)
Three of the 405s were fine-- super fast buring( many new 'pits' in the face of my lpms)
these were all over 760mWs and smoke comes from black plastic instantly. They are going out today to Rich Z, CDHDC and arythna. I think afaik the others may need adjustment that I cannot perform, very sorry Jedirock, Bobby S and sharoff (and me!) Turnaround on this should be around two/three weeks or a little more. Express shipping takes 7 days +/- each way.
Please know this--IMO, as we are getting a big discount as a GB and free extra goodies and this time Gray/JETL is covering the very expensive Express shipping to and from china/Texas we should try to be patient and give Gray the chance to make everything right as he has in the past. Consider the fact that we are getting the first PL-Cs in 445 and 405 made by JETL and some issues are bound to surface. I seroiusly doubt that JETL is making ANY profit on this GB ATM--my guess is it will be written off as a promotonal expense.

T Y to all for waiting.

DAMN buckeye! you got that right.

I sure was dragging ass today and now to get to sleep in a few as I get up at 4:30 to go to Dr appt. So here is something to chew on til I get more done-- I have no shipped any laser out to buyers OR back to Gray ATM.

I retested everything today to be sure I have it right. I consider it my duty as host to never ship out any laser or laser item that would dissapoint me if I were the recepient.

I took a series of pics today and to avoid any ideas that just like Gray, the hak is not being transparent and upfront.

So I have dwnlded to this album these test photos using Andrews(whodunit) PL-C 445/800 and a DTR Guidesman 445/900 )glass AixiZ 400-450 lens. Both have fresh 18650 matching batts new.

Start at the bottom of the photos and scroll up. They speak for them selves. My metering photos will be added asap- JETL-and DTR both ~900mWs.

From 1 inch the JETL has a focused grain of rice size and shape. Photo is bad . needed to filter next try.
BTW the other pics are Grays of the 405.

post questionsto me on this thread --wish me luck for my ultrasound Wed.

Will talk to you wed. eve Andrew.
