well I'm so impressed with the divergance right now, I don't know if I want to mess it up!

This thing is amazing. It's the least diverging laser I have ever seen, and I've seen a LOT of lasers.

Got the laser! Thank you again SenKat, for going through all this for us.

But someone please enlighten me.  There's two rings on the aperture, the outer and inner one.  I assume the inner one is the focus, right?  Because in mine, the inside casing just spins and spins.  The inner one just seems stuck.  There seems to be some green thread sealer on the ring, and some of it seems to have dripped on the inner ring.  Thoughts?

And I don't know about anyone else, but the switch on mine seems to have pretty much broke already.  Most of the time, it just stays on and won't turn off.  

But, when it's on, it's pretty nice.  :)  Just gotta get it focused!

EDIT:  Yeah, switch is completely gone.

Well I marked where mine was with a sharpie so I can at least get it very close back to where it was...but yes, the divergence is awesome.

my switch was a little funky too for a while i couldn't get it to turn back on. it seems to short out with moving side to side, try checking to see if yours is doing the same.

Well, I got the switch KIND of working. It works about a third of the time, and I have to be real gentle with it.

But I still can't focus it. it seems like the inner focus ring, (I assume the small, inner one is the focus), has somehow become attached to the ring that surrounds it.

Thoughts?

Nevermind guys, got it working. Had to disassemble the whole unit, but found that the focus ring was, somehow, glued to the case itself. Broke it free, though.

So, no real problems. :)

Aseras - PM me the serial number from your unit, please ? I would like to check out that inconsistant reading, since I used my LPM-1 to measure them....they were ALL over 200mw - most were in the 215mw range....I know you may not care, but I do - especially if something is up with my meter !

Phorsaken - IF the tailcap continues to be an issue - let me know, I can send you another tailcap....Also, important to note with this particular style, folks - when not in use, remove the batteries....The spring inside WILL get compressed - and then you will have to add battery magnet spacers in order to get it to turn on at all !

Mine worked for about a minute, it's a 5mW pointer now. I can't even tell if it's lasing anymore o not... if it's an LED now, it's brighter than the dr_lava DVD burner diode was, after I toasted it during testing.

Is it even worth trying for a warranty claim after all this, or should I simply locate a replacement diode from a GB (and turn the pot down for longevity)?

CRAP ! You ARE kidding ? :'( :'( :'( If you want me to send it in for warranty - I can and will do so. Let me know, man - and I am sorry....I tested each one for a full minute on my meter, making sure of the power :(

These batteries are from a stash of reliable shouldn't-explode new Sanyo cells I keep for multi-cell applications. The unit went from blazing full power to keychain output in two subsequent clicks. (Edited to add: swapped in a new pair of fresh cells. No change. and no flickering or variations to indicate contact issues)

Judging from the lack of wavelength artifacts I'm seeing, it's definitely not lasing, it's the same failure mode I saw with an overdriven GB DVD burner diode.

Senkat: I'm going to take it to email for the moment.
