I got the sleds today! (the bonus red diode is the strange long canned diode - far right #3. I'm sure this is the same as the one I tested. 225mW's @ 395mA's with an AixiZ acrylic lens)

Ok... for the blu-ray diode, unless I got a freak diode or something, this is a completely different diode than the 6X from the GGW-H20L.

It starts out low on power by comparison, however!... :)

The following graph shows how the power just kept on climbing and climbing! It even starts to get steeper with more power! :D

I believe the beam is flat just like the PHR-803T diodes. (perhaps others can verify this) But as you can see, the power to current ratio is different from the 803T, as well as the GGW-H20L 6X.

Keep in mind that these measurements were taken with a Meredith glass lens, but that should not affect the power curve. With an AixiZ acrylic you will probably be 10mW's less. Or maybe 15mW's.

At this point, I have not found the 'knee' of the power curve yet! At 218mW STEADY, I'm not too sure I want to push it anymore for fear of killing this awesome blu-ray diode.

What do you guys think about chipping in to cover the cost of this sled and I will continue the graph in 10mA increments until it dies?
If so, we could all pitch in to Amk for batch 3 and I will get the extra sled on batch 3... If I chip is $10 or $15 bucks, we only need another $45 or $50...

Never mind about the idea of maybe pitching in... Lol! I was testing it for a 5 minute run in the TEC Ice Box and it held steady as a rock at 221mW's until it died after about 3 1/2 minutes. :'(

Not sure where that leaves us. Possibly it would be ok as a 200mW blu-ray, but with a conservative duty cycle...

:'( not good...although I would be happy with a 60sec on 20 sec off duty cycle at 200mW ;D

Hmm. would be interesting to see if it's capable of handling 200mw steady. I have to say that I'm a bit dissapointed that this is not the same diode, yet not too suprised. I'm really dissapointed that the beam profile is not as good as the 6X. That probably was one of the more important things for me.

Jayrob, I feel your $55 pain!!!

jayrob, does this sled have the long closed can diode?

Yes! This sled does contain the long canned Red. It is the one on the right. (#3). So, it is not a complete loss for my first sled. I still have the Red 'bonus' diode that I'm pretty sure will be the same as the one I tested earlier - 225mW's @ 395mA's (AixiZ acrylic)

I'm still in for 4 in batch 3 Amk.

I think it is a nice blu-ray diode. I shouldn't have left it on for so long at 232mA's!

How much current (about) will I need to have 200mW with one of IgorT's lenses and this 4x (or 6x? :-?)

Remember that these diodes are still in the experimental stage... This first one that I tested may have gotten damaged in the harvest for all we know. (I don't think so though)

If IgorT's lenses are the same output as the Meredith glass lens (which I think they will be - maybe even just a tad better), and judging from these first test results, you will need to set your current at around 222mA's to see 200mWs'...

these are true 6x sleds... Except the beam is normal, not round... I think you are mis-interpreting things you do not understand.

Also, If you were to back out, as said earlier, DO NOT OPT IN. Kenom has wanted one of these, though didnt know if it would have the round beam or not. So he has waited.



anyhow, 200mW steady shouldn't be a problem. He had his at about 218 when the graph cut off. when it starts to get too steep, I think thats when We must stop. Cause if it rises too fast, then you get something close to an undefined slope, which wouldnt make sense. The power rises exponentially as current increases, so if power increases too fast itl strain the diode...

i think you are getting freak results do to TEC maybe?



I cant take it anymore. I am going to harvest mine. wish me luck, ill shoot about 200mW at it in an aixiz acrylic to see what happens.

Can't wait to see your results Amk! It is definitely an excellent blu-ray diode. The mA to mW ratio was 1 to 1 all the way.

For that matter, has anybody put 232mA's into a GGW-H20L diode for 3 1/2 minutes?

At 200mA's with an AixiZ acrylic, I would take a guess that it will give you somewhere around 160mW's to 165mW's.

I was running mine at 225 with no issues other than the toasty warm heatsink. GooeyGus IIRC, blew one at 275ma, or just a bit lower.

If you expand the beam to a large dot, is there any flickering or indication of mode swithcing at or before 232ma?

Well.... I didn't get a chance to check for those kind of things on this first one. But the power was rock steady and climbing.

The power climbed a little before it died. Not sure if it was due to the TEC dropping the temperature or what...
But it started out at 218mW's, and after about 2 minutes, it started to slowly climb in power. It got to 221mW's and died at about 3 1/2 minutes.

When I checked the current after it died, it was still exactly at 232mA's...
