BTW ARG, for say an M140, when diode running temperature is reduced what direction does the wavelength shift? I have heard opposing theories on it and figured if anyone knew it would be you.

I think the wavelength decreases as the temperature drops for all diodes. That's just from what I've read though - I have not yet tried any wavelength readings with a chilled diode.

Looking for some nice turquoise colour with your TEC one then! If you can get a more powerful TEC, I guess -10C can be easily achieved. Some models are doing delta-T of 60C at 10W of dissipation! Since the diode doesn't output that much power, and surrounding temperature is likely to be ~25C, then -20C or even -30C might be possible!

Data sheet has min operating temp as 0C. I would like to see how much that can be pushed, very interested in our options with this one.

No reply from Will on the diode so far, he'll probably respond on Monday.

I would like to say that it's nice to be a part of this. It's also great/smart/important that we are going to be testing more than one. Even though I won't directly be testing myself or likely be benefiting any time soon from all this, can see the benefits long term down the road.
So, a personal thanks to all who are involved in any way. Things like this are why I like "hanging out" with you guys.
Pete

Oh yeah, I'm sending another $10 to help with the second one. Hope everyone realizes I was seriously joking when I said "this is so stupid and childish" with the first $10 I sent.

I've seen mine go to 80mW allready so expect to see 100mW atleast.

This test being performed by those involved sure would help me, and others to keep it at those rates or go beyond that :)

The Osram PL450 diode has a nominal output of 80mW and can be pushed to 300mW.
If we apply the same analogy to the PL520 diode then it can do 200mW. :D

That would be pretty awesome to be able to make a key chain sized direct green pointer capable of 200mW :D

You don't even know how happy 200mW would make me... as long as the wavelength shift isn't overly bad. I would like to build one at stock and then one I would like to test carefully myself and set it to its own unique max efficiency point. When I get around to doing this I will surely post the plot as well. The more info we can gather on these the better.

Have to admit I've been tempted to run my HL450 to 200mw. Just a bit edgy about it since the first one they sent failed on me (stock, not adjusted).

About the keychain size 200mw idea above, how would that work since these need so much voltage? I think three cells?

If we can get a boost driver for these then I will be putting one in one of the MS V3's I have coming soon :D would be my EDC laser for sure!

I would imagine Lazeerer's X-Boost would be able to drive them right? Maybe input from him would be able to tell us what we are in store for. I'm pretty sure a heatsinked X-Drive running three cells could handle it as well. Another thing he could confirm.

Pretty sure that's what RHD used.

Do we still need more funds on the second diode? If so, shoot me the paypal to send it to in a PM and i'll send over 10 bucks.

Thanks,
Isaac
