^^^You should get something for reds to cover 638nm... there are already plenty of class 4 builds, and I'm betting we will see 1W+ builds later this year.

I HOPE so! And when those come out I WILL be getting a good pair for the reds.

Ouch! That ELX's 7% VLT is terrible. Plus at OD7 (from the graph) you won't see anything of the blue (it is nice to be able to see something, just not harmful or irritating amounts). At that price ($140) you could spend somewhat more to buy an ARG and second pair (like a KRR) for ($80 + $101 = $180 = $40 more), and better protection at 635nm (OD5+) where we'll more than likely see higher powers. Much better VLT at both (48% and 18%).

Those broadbands are nice, if you really need them, but swapping goggles might actually be nicer for ergonomics. The main reason I got those ML7s is that it blocks IR in addition to 532nm. The red protection is pretty weak (150mW or so). Otherwise, it's not all that great for general use because of the low VLT (13%), and I'd much rather wear my YLWs if I could (73% VLT, $101).

I've been really prizing VLT these days, and it's a reason I'm going for an RB2 (35%) instead of a KRR (18%) or DY2 (14%). The DY2 is also more expensive than the RB2 ($157 vs $119); however, the RB2 is more than the KRR ($101). I'm okay with only OD3+ for 635nm on the RB2. I can use up to 5W lasers with that.

Exactly, the VLT is terrible on those. With an OD7+, how much can you see of a 1watt 445? I would like the high IR protection for the 20W 808nm I currently have (no power supply/driver for it yet).

Most of the time I'd be doing cutting or artwork... is 7+ overkill? or should I look for 5+ 6+? And 23% VLT shouldn't be too bad - right?

I don't have much need for red. If I build a big red it won't be til next year...

Re: GB oemlasersystems goggles

Actually, after looking at just a 600mW 445nm using the YLWs I have (OD6), I think you'd be fine with OD7 or higher. One thing about those 445nm lasers is that they cause fluorescing on many surfaces, so things do seem pretty bright.

What about the IR5 pair for both 445nm and IR? The VLT isn't great (16%) but about the same as those ML7s. Didn't you mention the DI3 as well (32%)?

^^^
The IR5 does look decent. Only downer is it doesn't include 532nm.
The DI3 is very appealing, but lacks 1064 for DPSS greens. 32% vLT is good though.
The DBD is just like the DI3 but covers up past 1100nm with 23% VLT (I'm pretty sure these are the pair I'm sticking with).

Re: GB oemlasersystems goggles

Now we just need another 12 or so buyers and I can knock the $175 price tag down to about $145. :)

:bumpit:

14 on the list. We only need 11 more to get the 25% discount! And of course, the more the merrier. Let your friends and strangers know the importance of eye protection!

Re: GB oemlasersystems goggles

Does anyone have any "clout" on PL to announce this GB? Perhaps there'd be some interest there as well.

Re: GB oemlasersystems goggles

Count me in, Style 56, I need something 532nm down to as low as possible hoping uv and or ir but at least to 445 which is going to be the main liability here soon
