Re: GB feeler laser barrels

CR123 batteries are fine too.
Sounds like Xmas before time ::)
I guess that there will be a driver GB when the barrels are ready.

I really should badger my dad, he has a degree in electrical engineering. Maybe I should have him when I'm building custom drivers...hah.

Hey Kenom,

PM me (if you want) with some details of the design, + the quote you gave to the manufacturers. I'll take a look and see if I can beat in on my CNC. Then you'd have no minimum order :-D

Damn you people and your lasers... now I feel compelled to get one of these too. I used to be a good kid, but now... now...

Sign me up for one.

Yes I forgot, CR123 would be ideal, as they make it shorter in length and I like how they fit in most laser barrels. I perfer a short wider laser barrel than a long one like most green lasers are.

Senkat is trying to convince me to offer a package deal for multiple barrels. IF I end up doing that I may have to jack the price up a teenie bit for the singles. $2-$5 but the benefit will be if you wanna order more than 5 of these you can get a discount on the cost.

One head with a 5.6mm press fit for the LD and including optics, threaded to accept a choice of AA, AAA, CR123, RCR123, maybe another I forgot, would sell me on several of them and shouldn't be too much more work on CAD.

Is that what you meant?

awww crap, a nice looking host+focusing+driver+ready for CR123s - man that sounds way too cool!
If only there was enough money! Well, there is, but other things want money, too.

Man, looks almost too good! Senkat, will you add these to your shop?

I'm liking the driver kits from Meridith Instruments. It costs about that much for me to go get the parts from Radio Shack, and they dont even have the correct parts. Its an added bonus that the driver is designed for laser diodes and has a board that'll fit nicely into my flashlight...I hope.

Re: GB feeler laser barrels

Well... this is one really sexy treat that you've brought up here Kenom ::)

The more I think to not think about it, the more I want it... so dammit I'm in... dunno how much for sure yet, but IF I had the money for all 100 of them I'd take them all... :-[

Nevertheless, I have to add my own questions... right? :p

So... here goes... will this thing be made suitable for the AixiZ module with the acrylic lens only, or will it be deep enough so the glass lens and its protruding front tip still fit in there and be hidden?

Thank you again for organizing this and I look forward to seeing the outcome :D

Re: GB feeler laser barrels

Ok I'm gonna look at teamwavelength. they have what I'm looking for it looks like. Now I'm gonna start talkin with them for a short bit and will get back with you guys to let you know how things look.

I'm also going to be moving to a new apartment which means that I'm going to be off the net for a few days to a few weeks. (depends on my isp's work load on how quickly they can get me reconnected at the new apartment. So since I'm going to be gone I'm not going to be able to update the information on this GB for a few days/weeks starting the 9th. Until then I will keep everything up to date and informed of any changes.

These will be offered on Gregs website when they are actually ready to go and I am going to start needing money. That and I'm talking with danielbriggs to see if we can't get at least a prototype put together or see if his cost is going to be cheaper and we can start these as the orders come in! I'm very excited about everyone's interest in this endeavor.

As far as the depth of the module is concerned Daedal I think that it's the depth it is specifically so the focal adjustment is for teh acrylic. If I change the focal lenth of the chamber any for the glass I think it will mess with the way that the Acrylic focuses. Now I don't know if that's the case for sure.. but imagine the acrylic being screwed out a total of 2 360 degree turns and you change the focus of the beam. I imagine it will do the same thing if I deepen the chamber to accomodate the glass optics. Now the tip of the barrel will be like a cap bottle so there will be a "rim" if you will to allow for this to sit on it's head without tipping. I'll try to incorporate a extra 1mm depth in this and see how it works out. although I think we'll have to screw in the acrylic to almost inside the thing to get "infinity focus"
