Just an update! USPS says I'll be getting the diodes tomorrow, but they have been wrong a lot recently so I kinda doubt this will be true. If they end up coming tomorrow or Monday I'll have it shipped out by Monday afternoon!

As for the giveaway, what is the general consensus on when the names will be drawn? If there is no better electronic alternative, I'd be happy to draw names from a hat. I think I could even do a live feed from YouTube to increase the suspense. :D

I like the hat idea. Random number generators are rarely accurate, and some numbers are less lucky than others. So putting in slips of paper would be cool. And the live feed would be awesome I think.

Yeah, I think slips of paper on video is the only real genuine way to do it, especially when dealing with something as expensive/rare as this.

There is always random.org. One of the only truly random number generators possible :p Can even use radioactive decays to trigger the RNG, meaning that it is quantum mechanically random. As random as it gets!

I was just going to give everyone a number after the information has been collected, then get Dave to go to random.org and get us a number.

The final cost of the diode, PP fees, shipping, import fees ect. will be added up once I have the diode in my hand.

Hmm, personally I thought it would have been better to individually PM everyone their numbers, that way the person drawing doesn't know. Not saying whoever is drawing isn't trustworthy, but with something of such value, you never know :p

Usually in a drawing dave will post a screenshot of random.org with the number on it. I suppose he could keep running it until he gets the one he wants, but I think we can all trust him not to do that?

Anyways I just went straight from the list in the OP, so its not like everybody couldn't figure that out. We can use a different list.

I say we draw until after testing. Keeps it easier IMO.
I just don't want someone breathing down my neck saying "Get the testing done, I want my diode! You better not hurt it!"

Dave has done this in the past, I don't think it would cause any troubles.
