A long lost friend seems to have found his way back to LPF.

Nice to see you around RHD, even though I haven't been very active myself this past year.

Ahhh, hey Ben!

Not back-back, just managed to find a couple days of free time over the holidays, and of course that led me to pop back in :)

Although I have been plugging away in some free time over the past few months at a 2.3A boost driver that measures 6 x 9 mm (one-half the size of a flexdrive). Once I'm comfortable with it enough to share, posting it may be my last post for another year and a half, lol :)

What country is this diode shipping from? (I didnt see the product link anywhere)

Just looking to get an estimate on how long it will take to get to you, I can't wait to see that sweet sweet green light :p

Also looking forward to building myself one of those drivers R!

I don't know where the diode is coming from, likely China.

Check the thread in the vets section for the source.

Hey guys, got some bad news :(

Nichia stopped a shipment to china. Most sellers were waiting for this order and it was stopped. A new order will be in in 20 -30 days.
The only suppliers that have them at this point is the ones selling them for over $900

We have a few options at the moment.
1. Find a source that has the diodes in stock and is selling at the price we anticipated.
2. Raise more money.
3. Wait 20-30 days.

I didnt join in on this one but I'd say 1 or 3. More money means less tests in the future. Plus we have the 3W 445nm test as well so that takes away from that test

I'm fine with any of the options, however I cannot donate any more as I'm saving up for a different project.

Atomicrox, although I admire the searching you've done, I dont trust those sellers. over 1/2 of them all used the same q-line photo. Anyone can make a FS listing for a 1W 520nm diode and steal a photo. Get the $$ and run, we get nothing! Plus one of them is a "NEW 520nm 1W 450nm 1000mW green" Got to love that cutting edge 520/450 dual wavelength diode

@madmacmo: makes sense, I had interpreted the news differently - as some sort of move from Nichia to try to stop those being sold to individuals, which we know is something that company dislikes. That's the reason I wanted us to grab them ASAP. ARG, can you shed some light on this? if madmacmo is right it's indeed better to wait.

@Livinloud: which seller do you trust? AFAIK this diode isn't being sold by any "reputable" companies. Unless we count O-like (which has had it's fair share of issues) or the "secret source", which I don't know anything about.

I get your point but the fact is that bare diode sellers are rarely trustworthy (DTR excluded). Either way it's not easy for them to steal the money, both feebay and ali have buyer protection and will almost certainly give your money back if you don't receive the product.

Yeah, that's O-like. A bit cheaper from their website but no buyer protection and no paypal.
