should i not get or even mess with a phazor if i dont have any glasses?
You shouldn't get or mess with any diode that's high powered without any eye protection glasses.
Look in this section, there's a GB for goggles going on right now. ;)

yea...... i saw that, but those only cover certain nm. anything after 30mW is "high" powerd right (thought i read that somewhere). not to say 30 is the where the line is drawn, but 30 is a good #

I consider any laser above the power that I can buy at retail outlets to be high powered.

all goggles cover only a certain nm. otherwise, it would block out ALL visible light, and basically you couldnt see ANYTHING

plus, member02's GB has an option for multiple ranges

Thank you guys for all the info... I do agree that the open can diodes seem to have their benefits... I bought 3 drives and just haven't had the time to dig into them yet. :-[

Although... here's something that'll bring some smiles to your faces... ;)

I decided to test another diode to explosion... I ordered another diode from them yesterday... A nice bill later, and it's on it's way in a 3 day trip to me... :D

So... I would assume that seeing some new data about these soon is not a far-fetched assumption ;)

just paid for one, thanks DDL!  can anyone tell me if this setup will be ok for the MXDL mod?  a 3 Ohm resistor with a LM317T running off of 2 cr123's?  and of course the cap and silicone

I finally beat VaThink with my open can Sony diode. It seems to be a "hot" one but I was able to get a stable 408.8mw's running it with 570ma's.. ;D

Anyway, glad you have a phaser diode on the way for evaluation. ;)

he did it with the sony drive diodes from newegg, I dont know if his was special, or if the sony drives have a better diode

(and no by sont I dont mean senkat diode (for some newbs who didnt read origional thread))

I didn't cheat either...I had the ND filter attached to my LPM-1 when I measured the output.. ;D

Well.. Do you think this diode can be used with the barrel from Kenom's GB ?
I mean, with the driver provided with the barrel ?

I don't see why not. From what I know the Phazors perform better at the higher mA ratings than the other 16x diodes.

What will be your test protocol for this one? Please do a non-TEC test, as they are rarely used for non-dpss lasers. Once you do a ramp, at 3 or 5 mA increments, you will be able to see the point where the efficiency has a dip (sometimes slight, sometimes pronounced). Choose an operating point slightly below this and run the diode for a few days. If it lasts, it should be good enough for pointer use at that operating point.
