A little secret here -- I've always reamed the Aixiz diode pockets a couple thou. Then add arctic 5 grease.
Works for me.

are you grounded when you play with the diodes? i attach a grounding strap to my ankle and clip it to my computer case and have had no problem fying the diodes.

Sure am... All the diodes get tested before they got the final solder drop to click the wires together for shipping. Nothing died so far from that... but many died while pressing!

I even had a unit come out with a broken window on the front of the diode when I pressed it out of the little diode holder.

Let me just tell you all that I'm being very patient with these things. I'm taking my time and being careful. Every diode gets the time it deserves. No diode sees any major amount of heat (1-2 seconds on each diode MAX). The wires are all tinned and fluxed before getting anywhere. The press fitting is all being done carefully and slowly... not what you would expect to smash a diode. Every diode I kill is costing me as much as it is for you to buy these... I've had 6 die so far, and that's over $150! I did buy many extras because I hoped to put them on ebay... and so far I don't think any good quantity will get to be on there. :-[

Oh well... I hope none more die. :)

Daedal - bring the price back up a bit for the next batch - enough to cover your new rate of kills, plus the current ones. We all trust you're doing the best can be done.

Since I haven't started yet today... I decided to take a minute and take a picture of the broken aperture window ;D

Here is it for your viewing pleasure :)

Thanks Ddl for doing this for us! :)

It sure would be cool if we could get these new like senkats 16x's... maybe someday! ::) then they would be a lot easyer to extract, from a static bag instead of a sled! Plus, one day, 250mw diodes too! :p :p

DanQ

DanQ, thank you very much for your suggestion. Although, I don't think that the price of the parts should be raised. Rather, the price for the salvage. I am raising the price of the salvage now to $15 instead of $10. It is not a big change, but enough of a change to put people off... I know. And I'm sorry. But honestly. The new AixiZ modules are not as good as the older ones. They even have the lathe marks on the side of the barrels... as in, they're not polished clean (corner cost cuts :-?), and some of the barrels don't even screw onto the heads (all will be tested before being sent out for those who ordered the kits and such). I'd like to promise better, but given how different these new housings are, I can't :-[

I honestly just wish the best of luck for those who bought the diodes without the salvage option.

Daedal,
You might want to order the DX modules. Unfortunately I don't have any spares or I would send you one to try...maybe someone else does. I realize they are more expensive than the Aixiz blank modules..but they do come with the silver focusing ring. And you would save money by switching to those if they are a viable option.. ;)

How much are those blank Axiz modules in bulk anyway?

Oh yeah, are these any different than the previous batch of Blu Ray assemblies? Or is it just that the Axiz modules suck now?

Daedals not the only one that has noticed a dramatic decrease in quality of the Aixiz modules. Greg has recieved about 20-30 that have holes that are too big for the diode to fit snugly. they just slide right back out. This coupled with the slow rate at which aixiz ships and no longer coming with the silver focus rings has prompted me to no longer take my business there. I have bought all of my latest modules from DX and the shipping has never taken more than 3 weeks plus if you get the line generator you can remove it and have it for later.

My last batch of Aixiz modules showed poor fit and finish too. I have to machine the exteriors to a consistant size and the glass lens inserts need fitting before they will thread into the module.
