EDIT: Going it alone. Placed an order for a similar module this evening. Excess will be sold through the eMachineShop web store (I don't have to do any order fulfillment then).

---
First and foremost, if Pontiac resumes selling these, I'm more than happy to put this GB aside. But for a while now it seems like he has not been up for selling the 3.8mm modules, or perhaps is out of stock. I have been trying to order some additional modules from him for a while, without any luck, so I don't want anyone to get the impression that I'm just jumping in here willy nilly and treading on someone else's terrain. I know there are others looking for 3.8mm modules, so that's why this idea came to mind.

My idea here, isn't so much to do a GB that will get modules in small quantities out to a ton of people, but rather to get chunks of modules into the hands of other people who can distribute them whether through stores, ebay, threads here on LPF, etc.

These modules will be great for Single-Mode 445nm diodes, or for the 635nm diodes that we've been finding in Pico projectors. In fact, I even remember that someone found a 405nm 12x diode in a 3.8mm form factor. If anything, there is likely to be a growing need for 3.8mm modules.

One neat innovation with this module design - I've integrated a diode press (more or less) into each module. So as long as you have an extra module on hand, you've got your diode press :)

Here are the specs:

Material: Aluminum

Module OD: 11.90 mm
Height: 10.00 mm
Lens Thread: M9x0.5
Rear Thread: Not Threaded

Diode Pocket ID: 3.76 mm
Diode Can Opening ID: 3.00 mm
Press-Tool OD: 3.40 mm
Press-Tool Slot ID: 2.00 mm

Price Breakdown (Parts, Shipping, Tax, Brokerage Fee):

100 pcs = $569.18
200 pcs = $705.85
300 pcs = $845.08
400 pcs = $990.49

I'd like to do this in batches of no less than 50 pcs. So, it's not exactly a group-buy for regular folk. But in 50 pc batches, the price per 50 pieces at the various total quantity levels would be:

@ 100 pcs = $284.59 (PER 50) *** 2 participants (myself + 1)
@ 200 pcs = $176.46 (PER 50) *** 4 participants (myself + 3)
@ 300 pcs = $140.85 (PER 50) *** 6 participants (myself + 5)
@ 400 pcs = $123.81 (PER 50) *** 8 participants (myself + 7)

There would also be some marginal additional cost (say $10 or so for me to ship the 50 piece bag to you)

It doesn't make a heck of a lot of sense to even do it at the 100 pc QTY level. But other than that, I'm pretty ok with doing it at any of the other price points. So - interest?

I don't mean to sound negative, but who here happens to have 50 3.8mm diodes laying around?

I thought I more or less addressed that in the original post. But it's a good question, so I'll draw attention to the answer here:

(...)

In other words, the intention is at least to get some bulk clumps of Aixiz-compatible 3.8mm diode modules out there in a few people's hands. Right now, there's not an initial source to even buy 20 for a web store from. I don't want to play salesman here, and if there's no interest, there's no interest. It's still possible to get a few of these made custom at a time, and I'm cool with that for the occasional single-mode blue build.

But it seems like there would be some benefit to getting a few small runs of these made, so that if someone wants to stock them in a "community laser store", they can. I'm sort of envisioning that this could be attractive to people like ModWerx, DTR, CajunLasers, Moh, Jayrob, HighTechDeals, OdicForce, SurvivalLaser - basically retailers that might want to add 50 to inventory if it was possible to do so for a bit over a hundred bucks, but who would never individually commission a small run because of the lack of scale efficiency.

Cool - what I'll do is stick you in "SLOT 6", because your participation status becomes "on board" once we hit that pricing tier.

Don't you mean...

Lens Thread: M9 x 0.5?

Thanks man. :)

I just can't justify more than that at the moment.

I took out the fancy features to keep costs down. It's just going to be a simple module. But two or three weeks and I should have them.

Re: GB: 12mm Modules for 3.8mm Diodes (Single Modes, etc)

Is it possible to combine the GB with the single mode OSRAM 445nm diode ? I think the module will be hosted mostly for this diode.

That's the plan - these should be great for single-mode diodes like the blues, reds, or any others using the 3.8mm diode form factor.

Did you get these and are you selling them? Or do I need to go through the e-machine shop store and how do I do that?

Thanks...

Hey,

I did. I did an initial sale thread of about 100x of them. I can probable revisit that, and sell you some since I'm doing a bunch of shipping this week anyway. Here's the thread with pricing. I'm not going to go out of my way to "re-open" that thread. But if anyone else sees this and is interested in buying some MOD38s this week. I'll do another shipping run on say Friday:
