Lol @ ^
I've posted drunk a few times. Once I got a little vulgar so I no longer drunk post. I actually gave up alcohol 2 weeks ago. To be perfectly honest I have a drinking problem. Once I start its very difficult for me to stop.

Needless to say, last night in Vancouver was an absolute chaos festival. I may post a video later on - the streets were chaos!

But I'm back to reality, and thought I'd chime in.

So as I've mentioned in this thread, I placed a personal order for some 9mm Aixiz clones 4 days before we put in this GB. Truthfully, it was like a Friday night that I put them in, and I think Stevie put this GB in on the Monday or Tuesday, so it was basically just a day or two earlier since we're talking about business days when we speak of the eMachine timelines.

Anyway, for anyone who is unfamiliar with the eMachineShop pricing model, their software actually quotes about 10 prices at once. Each price is for the same design and quantity, but the difference is timing, and shipping speed.

So as an example (just double checked that these ballpar figures are correct), the same part and quantity that gets quoted at $440 for 26 business days, gets quoted at $740 for 18 business days, and $1600 for 14 business days.

In other words, speed and timing are options that you can PAY FOR if you want to, with eMachineShop. Needless to say, we used (and had always planned on using) the cheapest option here. The important thing to remember, is that A) they provide us with estimates in BUSINESS DAYS, this might have been something that we didn't take note of initially, and B) there's a +/- to their estimate that they acknowledge up front.

So in terms of their 28 day estimate, that puts us into the first week of July. If there's a +/- of a few more days, then the end of that first week or beginning of the second week, is normal/expected/not sketchy.

We initially got a bit lucky with this order, in that their status report suggested an earlier delivery date than the full run of that time period. However, note that my personal order that was placed a few days earlier, has always said July 11th as the arrival date. So at worst, our GB is tied with my own order placed a few days earlier.

I'm not suggesting that this is fast, or even that it isn't slow. It is, for sure. At the same time, it's still $5 for a pretty cool custom piece of machining that we didn't have the luxury of offers to fabricate elsewhere, faster, when we pursued this route. It would have always been my reference to give work to a forum member before an external company, but that option didn't present itself back when this idea was conceived. So in my mind, it's not right for us to expect someone we've contracted with to refund a contract where they really haven't done anything wrong.

eMachineShop was the best option we had when we placed the order, and just because things have changed on our end to present us with a better alternative for the future, doesn't really give us the ethical right to back out of an agreement we made prior. That would really cheese me out if I was on the other end.

@ Luke,
i dont think i have a drinking problem...i swear i dont!!! hahaha, but i know how you feel. it starts off as a few bottles of beer, and then the hennesy priviledge comes out...and at that point hardly anyone remembers why or how we ended up finishing 2-3 bottles of cognac... but its ok... only on the weekends.

@ rhd,
you know what since you pointed that out, it does make ALOT of sense as to the estimated time of delivery...also since they initially gave me a completion date of june 29th, i think that they WERE in fact going to finish then but then they ran into a problem sourcing the tap which led to them pushing it back further to the intended ship date. its ok i guess.... while personally i would LOVE to have pontiacg5 handle this, emachineshop has already incurred costs and it would be very costly for us to cancel and have pontiac do it... so i guess we gotta just hang in there.

@ben
i have work during the day, i go out to drink at night...if i dont respond to your calls, that is because i dont sit in front of my computer all day, i hate taking unneccesary calls when im having fun. Dude you gotta think about it like this, first you dont wanna pay for shipping, but then you also want someone to deliver to your house... FOR FREE...and then you RUSH them... thats like me telling emachineshop, "ay man hurry the hell up, and deliver it to me for free" ... dont take my generousity for granted dude.

sorry rhd for the rant, but it gets annoying when people dont understand how real life actually works...

No worries about the rant. You're the one who has to ship a dozen packages at the end of this, not me ;) Rant a bit if you'd like, it's all good.

That said, I wouldn't give my phone number out to anyone on this forum, or any forum for that matter. No offence to anybody here, it's not personal - I just don't like getting phone calls.

With the exception of a few friends, my parents, and my girlfriend, I don't take personal calls period. Email and text is proper etiquette in my mind. It allows people to deal with issues / tasks on their own time, and prioritize accordingly. It's a rare issue that requires a phone call. It's a strange state of affairs that we've arrived at in 2011, but phone calls almost border-line irritate me. If someone calls when a text message or email would have been just fine given the issue, it feels disrespectful.

Perhaps I'm different than others in this respect, but I generally won't pick up a voice call when someone should have emailed or texted me.

I say that not with specific respect to any of the details of whatever is going on b/n you and BH. I don't know what your business transaction is (though it probably doesn't belong in this thread), but I'm sure that the two of you can amicably sort it out - you're both mature people from my experience :)

You don't need to be so rude steve. The only reason i was upset is because you guaranteed to get them to me in 2 days and made me pay in advance. Then after 4 days you have still not contacted me. It was in our agreement that you were to diliver them asap.

Also, I don't "Sit in front of the computer all day" I go to school, and practice hockey 5 times a week. So please don't give me that shit.

Edit: rhd, the only reason we have eachothers phone number is because he live so close and we do a lot of business. And he told me in the past he doesn't like to text.

hey man you're just like me...the fact that i charge my cell phone once every 5-6 days should tell you i dont use it much if at all. text and emails are preferred. If i dont feel like it, and i know its a personal call, i wont pick it up period.

on another note, hows the move going rhd...you nice and settled yet?

@ben
gaurantee is absolute... you need to listen more carefully. Probably and most likely are not absolutes... i say almost everything as probably or most likely because as we all know "shit happens". if aixiz takes an extra day to ship me the blank lenses then thats the deal, what am I gonna do go call them and complain right?? anyways im not gonna threadjack rhd, and you need to stop posting here about this crap dude. calm down. 1-2 days aint gonna kill nobody. cuz you sound like a crack addict in need of a fix.

stevie:
I'm more or less settled. Not all of my laser stuff came with me, so that's kind of a bummer. My position runs for ~4 months, so at some point towards the end of August, I'll be making the reverse journey another 4000 + km.

stevie / ben:
Can I clarify - this has nothing to do with the focus knob, correct? (don't know how it could, there's nothing to deliver yet). Can this be kept to PMs / some other relevant thread? I feel like the other 10+ people following this thread probably don't need / care to get excited about updates to this thread, only to find that they aren't actually updates to this thread ;)

No harm done guys. The groupbuy is in, so I figured that a bunch of people have probably subscribed to the thread.

RHD: You seem to regard so much stuff as disrespectful.

LOL - are you serious? I think I'm like the least "touchy" person when it comes to being "disrespected" on these boards.

- I don't get stressed out or angry when other people make lasers that are copies of mine, I'm not bothered in the least bit about people taking my ideas, in fact I'm usually flattered.
- I don't get viciously obnoxious when someone comes into my sales thread and suggests that my selling price for something is too high.
- I never spout out the mantra of "my thread, stop interfering, don't buy it if you don't like the price, etc etc etc". I just take the feedback like an adult, and adjust my price if it's valid feedback.
- I'm not protectionist and paranoid about any particular product, and thus I don't feel compelled to irrationally defend the commercial interest of any particular piece of laser gadgetry to the death.
- I never feel personally insulted when a new user asks a stupid question. With the exception of situations where their question is just *too* hilarious, I generally give them an honest response, or at least a joking one followed with "But in all seriousness..."

All in all JaiNobeZ, I think I'm pretty easy going on the "crying disrespect" front. If you look back at my history of threads, the only time I've been in arguments with someone on the board, has been when THEY have fallen into one of the absurd/unproductive/unnecessary categories above, and I've said / done something the is incompatible with that generally negative approach to the board.

"Disrespect" actually matters in the real world, where the respect you receive from others is connected to your real characteristics, personality, and actions.

"Disrespect" in an online community where people don't know you other than through some words you type, is just about as important to get touchy about as your Google pagerank ;)
