I will post something on it when I get it done, my big builds like this take a year or more before I get them done, not ready to start on it for months due to the costs involved in getting the parts and machining done.

Basically, I want to build what this is, minus the IR and the huge aluminum block and heatsink on the back you can't see in this photo. I think a big CO2 cartridge on the right machined mount will cool them off enough to make a unit that weighs under 5 pounds for short duration use of only a few minutes on battery, but much longer when plugged into an external battery pack or vehicle power. The one shown in this photo is so heavy I can barely lift it in and out of the back of my pickup truck alone but does have 16 two watt blue lasers on it which with TEC cooling can run 100 percent duty cycle they stay so cold.

Laser Project, why the gratings on all the lasers? I know there is a reason for them, but can't deduce it from what I see. The TECs are a good idea, but didn't think you would get so much cooling from releasing liquid CO2, unless the rate were very high, indeed.

I'm hijacking the thread at this rate, I shouldn't be posting pictures and getting more off topic, sorry for that guys. However, I will answer here another time, after that I need to back off and leave the thread to topic. The gratings are simply glass line lenses, the blue lasers are supposed to be used as a beacon and not send out a collimated spot but I have removed those and sent up sixteen collimated light streams, it is impressive but I've only done it a couple of times in the remote southwest desert away from any city or airport.

As far as a CO2 cooler for the new one, I'd have to have a fast rate to be effective, I think. I still have a lot to consider in building it, battery weight vs operating time, how long I can run it with CO2 cooling before that runs out. It might end up being another all to heavy beast, if too heavy it will be just another seldom used toy. For a 20x 1 watt diode unit the CO2 might run out too fast to be practical, but for a small single 1 watt output laser I bet it is a reasonable method of cooling for most people except it would make the pointer bigger and cost more to run. Another issue might be condensation on the lens, if it gets too cold. It would be sophisticated to do so, but you could auto pulse cool the laser with CO2 to keep it within operating temperature, using a thermostat, if I could find a electrical gas valve small enough for a hand held unit but again more weight and cost. Might be better to use a mechanical gas valve on a button and a small thermometer on the device to show you when it is getting too hot and blast it with a burst of cooling gas for awhile.

If I buy another 25 for a total of 50, let me know how low the price would go when all of the other orders are in. I wonder how much loss at 808nm for these, if low enough, I could use them for another project too.

hakzaw1 and BubonicCronic, you are both on the spreadsheets. I suggest that everyone who has ordered a lens or more visit one of these spreadsheets and see that their order is correctly cataloged. We are over 100 lenses so far, but, if there are any questions, I suggest you read the OP as it has all, or at least most, of the information to answer most questions. Some of you might not remember when this group buy started out that it was almost shut down because another buyer had purchased 1000 lenses for $5000.00, and wanted to return his lenses because the price was the same as the one I was offering to the forum members. I had to do a lot of negotiating to get the group buy to continue to run at the price of $5.75 per lens. This is the price I was quoted by Techhood. I did my best to keep this group buy from becoming a casualty right then and there. I was told that they would stick to the $5.75 price per lens, but it would not be going down from there for obvious reasons. If you follow this thread from the beginning to here you will see this. I still work hard each and every day to make this group buy work (putting out small fires here and there). Thank you for your understanding and your support, Paul

Laser Project, that is a question I think I can answer for you. I have an 808nm laser that has a three element lens on it and could compare the two outputs if you aren't in a big hurry for it. I have many things going on right now and this is just one more of many.

I just got finished comparing the 3 element lens to the Techhood lens on my 808nm laser, and the results were actually a surprise to me. I got a full 25% increase over the 3 element lens in the 808nm wavelength with the Techhood lens. I was surprised indeed. This will be of interest to you, Laser Project.
