RA... that sucks. Best of luck to you.

With any luck, mine will come today - but I doubt it.

I think the 589nm lasers are CW, but I am not sure. Somebody who owns one will have to check.

I believe blues are pulsed either for better heat management or because the crystal likes it better than CW. Or both. This is just what I've heard, though.

I believe the 589's are CW. 473nm is pulsed to get a higher peak power, if I remember correctly.

what did you get Trevor?

Green PGL-III-M.

EDIT: "The crystals like it better pulsed." Hahaha, that's brilliant. Excellent phrasing good sir.

The GLP-473nm is supposed to be pulsed at 700Hz and this one is supposed to be 2000Hz. The PGL-III-C is the only handheld CW 473nm laser they offer. The 2000Hz pulsing should be so fast that it is not noticable under normal use. You probably have to swing that thing like a tennis racket to see the dotted line. Man I am starting to freak out about mine now seeing as how it is the exact same laser as yours and was likely manufactured with the same batch of C mounts as yours.

I believe the Dragonlasers website specifies the "Spartan" as pulsed at 2000Hz.

A quick flick of the wrist is enough to show the dotted pattern. It is hardly noticeable, and I'm not about to swing this thing over my head to get a dotted line. :p

Another thing to mention- something I like very much- This laser has very low divergence. I would estimate 0.7mRad.

Man, I really want a working blue! The color is beautiful.

LOL @ swinging a laser over your head.
I agree, the color is magnificent. I really like my PGL-III-C when it is at 100mW. Problem is it starts at 20mW and takes 2 minutes to get all the way up to 100mW. Other problem is the 5 second delay from the time I press the button till the time the laser comes on. I bought this laser becuase of it's small size, lack of annoying safety features and hopefully faster warm up time.

You guys should get 457nm.. absolutely breathtaking. It's generally not quite as visible as 473nm, but the blue is so deep it gave me goosebumps the first time I saw it.

Yes the thought has swam through my head a few times but the real deciding factor will be how awesome this M series laser is.
@ EF I would gladly purchase a 457nm or even 445nm if they produced them in handheld format. I used to love my lab module lasers but lately I have been taking my lasers on night hikes. One of these mornings at around 4 am I would love to go out in an open field when the fog is nice and dense and have a little laser party. Makes me wish people were nocturnal.

I know CNI -can- produce ~455nm DPSS; the question is: in which hosts, and how much $. I know Glenn was going to ask about this, but CNI, from what I've seen, only answers questions that they choose to. :) (I've tried...)

My laser came today. With the aperture cap firmly glued on.

Always an adventure with CNI.

Really?

Well, my PGL-M had a bit of glue on the threads. It was brittle silicone adhesive that seemed to have creeped onto the threads. Just try a little more force.
If it breaks, you can RMA with me :D.

The laser works right?

Yeah, works great. Has the divergence of my $800 HeNe too.

I'll bust out the rubber grippy thing and vise grips in a bit.
