im not trying to be confrontational but these kinds of suggestions just hold back projects like this for no reason.

Agreed.

I'm not trying to be confrontational either, but it's really frustrating when a new user with no rep, very few posts, and just a few weeks on the board, comes into a GB thread and starts making "suggestions" as to how they perceive a groupbuy should be improved. That happened over at the focus knob GB, and it really rubbed me the wrong way.

Anyway, regarding water "resistance" - if you're pointing a laser at the sky, during rain, I think there's a case to be made for the fact that water might be able to get in through the lens threads and down towards the diode. Having said that, I really only have this concern with open-can REDs.

Waterproofing is 100% not important here.

Just had a 5 minute hard look at my unused still in it's packing material Arctic S3--the host is so/so OK ---if no other choices become/are made availalbe, than I would still buy 2 exact knock offs/copies of the WL Arctic host-- same everything.

It does have the cool form factor it going for it.

Yeah it's definitely got the "cool form factor" alright:)! Ti would be nice but very, very expensive and costly to work. Ceramic would be easy to break don't you think (if it got accidentally dropped)? Al alloy is a very nice way to go too!
I am definitely still on for 2 of these babies;)!!

This isn't a Exact copy of the Arctic SIII. This is a Host that is now 10 X better than what the Arctic SIII Ever Dreamed of being.

It's not changeable at this point. If you Don't like it don't buy it. Everything is set and it was designed by all of us and we are happy with it.

I have a friend that is an avid scuba diver. He showed interest in a waterproof laser for simple communication and pointing things out underwater. I believe that they already make these products even.

Nice to hear it will be 10X better than an Arctic---is all goods things and concerns and comments everyone has---don't mind me my day job is thinking outside the box for the most part .
As I am new here I do not know the sensibilities of everyone nor what everyone has been saying for the last eon, I was just throwing out suggestions based upon where I would go with it. It doesn't hurt to ask if something is possible or could be made available for a few extra $'s at least not usually.

There are many many reasons for sealing the unit/making splash resistant and or immersible in shallow water/dropped it in a puddle resistant--the good news is that a cople of O rings cost less than a dollar will do a good job along with some thread sealer--not big deal.

Anyway I plan to turn the hosts I buy into nice <2000mw blue with 140's at least initially and plan to seal them from environmental uncertainties like water among others.

Be well, have fun, and best regards,
Encap

Not every diode does 2W.
To waterproof it, it will need an extra glass lens at the end of it, which you would not be able to get 2W out of for sure if you made yours waterproof

Plus at 2W you will have a reflection of 200mW back on the diode even if 90% of the light passes.

This whole project is "Out Of The Box"

Honestly your Idea of it to match the Arctic Host as is, doesn't sound very far out of the box lest alone out of the center of it....

It will be splash proof if you want one to hold under water go buy one made for it, you won't be able to simply do it to this unit. and you sound like you don't have the knowledge to "try"

You do know that puddles are reflective right...?

I'd hate to be in the neighborhood with this guy, if he builds a 2W laser and starts puddle hopping.
