I've seen the American laser infrastructures...but what about EUs??

Hey everyone,

I saw your posts in the ignite facility and the other one in California...but do u guys know anything about EUs facilitys...

Under development are ELI(extreme light infrastructre) and HiPER - High Power Laser Experimental Research Facility.

First one will mostly be used mainly in the same way the Cali one...

all info here ELI : European Project > Extreme Light Infrastructure (id just love to work there in the future...oh well! xD)

they are goin to push the boundaries of the high energy laser research, and be able to see how star with x times sun masses work and try to build the new generation particle accelerators, by shooting a laser through a plasma they can accelerate electrons.

then theres the HiPER...its like the ignite facility, but instead of the slow version of the thing (http://laserpointerforums.com/f54/ultimate-match-lighting-laser-500-trillion-watts-40830.html) they are aiming for the fast version of the thing (well...the only difference is...well...in the slow one its fast...really fast...and the other one is fast...reallly fast. only one more "l". but its different (imagine ur trying to light a match, but right before u shine the igniting laser onto it, u shine a different one to kinda push the match to the limit, right before ignition, and then the ignition laser comes in and its instant))

There's a Vulcan laser in the UK, there's a terwatt laser at my university (we were playing with it today), there's a large FEL in germany, but I'm not that familiar with the ubersize moneysinks in europe.

the current most powerful one is in france. Where i study we have a terawatt one also. Its one of the most powerful ones in the Southern Europe they say...
