Wicked Lasers Goggles the best deal?

wicked lasers might not have the best prices laser prices on the market right now, but im thinking that they do offer the best deals for goggles.

im not really a goggle expert but i dont remember seeing any other laser goggles for less than what wicked is offering them for.

what do you guys think?

WL goggles are kind of sketchy. the 532 goggles dont protect enough, and the 650 protect too much. i myself use red laser enhanceing goggles and visiball golf ball finding goggles. the red laser goggles cost 14 bucks, and they makes the pulsar more visible, and reduce even 95mW of green to a little yellow orange spec. the visiball goggles protect more than i would have liked, the pulsar dot is stil visible, but you have to search for it. but you can still see it. the next level up would be somthing form aixiz lasers or a similar site, but they are more expensive.

i dont know 100% for sure if these goggles i mentioned do infact block a laser beam. they are only there for a saftey net, and to keep me form flashblinding myself. i think they work nicely, but i have no way to test, so please be very careful if you do use these or any goggles, act like you dont have them on ;)

The WL goggles could provide more protection, but there should be no question as to their quality. They come from a place that sells many of the good goggles in this range (they sell for many wavelength ranges and ODs), and I've never seen them for <$90 except WL. I do agree though that the new WL pulsar goggles aren't good with the new higher OD.

Another choice might be looking into the Barr&Stroud goggles, which I've never has, but have heard good things about. I too have tried out the red-enhancing goggles, and on the surface they seem to work, but I think there is more to it than that and I wouldn't suggest using them for high-risk applications.

I have 2 pairs of the barr & strouds and i must say, i feel extremely safe when i have those on.

They have a higher OD than wickeds ithink they are OD5 which means you cannot see the beam from my 95mW and cuts the brightness of the dot down quite dramatically BUT i feel comfortable in the fact that these goggs are doing there job. The also filter out IR wavelengths too....i will see if i can find the graph that a spectro analyser took of there filtering properties.

I think the B&S would also be sufficient when using extremely powerful lasers like a few WATTS due to there high filtering :cool:

Its a damn shame the seller on ebay doesn't have any left......i paid $10 per pair.....an absolute bargain to keep my eyes super safe IMO ;)

i am considering picking up a pulsar, but only if i can find the right goggles. it looks like the goggles filter too much and you cant see the dot, right? and who is this barr and stroud? do they make goggles for 650nm? and where can i get them for 10 bucks!

OD6+ would be filtering too much IMO. OD 2-3 seem to be just fine.

The OD 2-3 is fine for lasers between 5mW to 125mW. Lasers are now outputting close to the Class IV (500mW) category and an OD 6 is required in my opinion.

I presume Wicked have tested this by shining a 450mW Spyder through goggles of OD 2-3 and I bet a few mW of power was able to pass through....hence the introduction of a higher density of goggles to stop that ;)

I agree. But how many people asking about lasers own a spyder? :p They should jsut offer a choice.

i think the WL goggles are a bit pricey, but i'm probably going to buy from there to get combined shipping with the dragon case i'm getting... shipping from china is EXPENSIVE, and i don't want to pay that and another shipping charge.

Here's a post I made on another forum in January - info should still be the same:

"There has been a big price drop. I ordered mine today and paid $68 including shipping.

Here is some info I received from Wicked Lasers, unfortunately no info on the IR:

The statistics for the green goggles are as follows:

190-380nm: OD 5+
488-532nm: OD 2-3

The statistics for the red goggles are as follows:

190-380nm: OD 5+
606-694nm: OD 5+

I just received my Wicked Lasers Red colored glasses for use with Green lasers. I have done a bit of research and don't think there is any IR protection. It appears they are similar to the Al2 lenses, Style #35 (my case from wicked says "AL2#35). See the link below and look at the graph.
