You will NOT get more light into your pupils with them on than you would without them. It just doesn't make sense. Like I said, does the sun hurt your eyes MORE with sunglasses on? Of course not. Do you pupils still dilate? Yes. Again I want to stress that I 100% agree that sunglasses are horrible for laser protection. BUT you cant say that MORE light gets into your eyes with them on compared to when they're off. [/quote]
Think about where you you would be when using sunglasses for protection from lasers. INDOORS, where the light is low. Donning sunglasses would further dilate your pupils would they not?

The point is moot because most of us realize that using sunglasses for lasers is just silly.

I think that this belief is based simply in pupil "size." When the pupil dilates the odds that the laser beam will pass through into the interior of the eye are increased. A larger access = a larger chance that the laser beam will reach the retina.

So you don't get "more light" in your eyes when wearing sunglasses. You increase the odds of getting light inside the eye to damage your retina when wearing sunglasses.

Now factor in the added "confidence" that one is protected and the increasing carelessness that accompanies that assumption.

I can agree with this, more surface area = better chance of a direct hit
