I have searched for an answer already in these forums to no avail, so i made this thread here. Mods if you wouldn't mind migrating this over to where it might be most appropriate? Thanks.
What is the best way to get a laser over to my friend out there? I'm not sure about customs or confiscation by the Corps.

I would like to check that it is in working order before sending it out, as well.

I shipped a 100mW greenie to My stepson using His APO and it made it, but it was not opened and inspected as far as He could tell. Might have just been an oversight, but My best guess is to just ship it like I did. Declared it as a flashlight.

When i was overseas All our Package where inspected. Letters inspected by Feel but never opened unless there was some type of object in them. They where passed over a Light up board of some sort to see if anything was in the Letter except for an actually letter.

Your Package CL must of got over looked or could have been a different base and inspection guide Lines were different as well as being their at different times.

I was there in 2004-2005.

However A Laser, flashlight or Knifes and things like that "Not Guns" Should be OK to send. However his Commander Might not let him use it.

I think before you send it ask him to ask his platoon Sargent if its OK.

This was also sent to the Army post and not the Marine base in Afghanistan if that makes any difference. It would definitely be a Bad Idea to light up a Heli over there; as a Hellfire up the ass would really suck.

After testing that it works as it should... Take it completely apart (not the insides or driver, ect), reverse-insert the focusing lens (if it's assembled and tested, it will appear as a powerful blue flashlight) and individually wrap the parts in bubblewrap - then box and send it as a high power flashlight. If he has batteries dont include any or send them separately. That may not be necessary but IDK, seems safer under scrutiny.

Also might be good to ask if he knows anything about receiving packages like this & what the standards are, if you haven't already :beer:

I feel like somebody fighting in the war in afghanistan should NOT be using a laser at all. Unless it is indoors, which they will have to wear goggles(not that fun)

Why would the military want big ace laser beams flying through the sky coming straight from their bases?

Label it as a flashlight. Do not ship the battery with it, ship it separately from the laser shouldn't have a problem.

So nobody thinks its a bad idea for somebody on base to shine their 1W I'n the sky on an army base?

I would definitely ship the battery separate... If everything gets inspected
and its not labeled 'LASER', somebody could get hurt.. @ 1W, you dont want
a curious person 'testing' it, and thinking its a 'flashlight'.

Ive sent to many APO addy's through ebay, but only parts, not assembled.
Now that I read that most mail is inspected, its a scary thought.

Its not a Big Deal to send the laser. The Problem is where is he going to use it.

Iam sure he is not Dumb enough to point it in the sky. Witch i dough he will.

But i think you should let him know anyways.

A laser to a Pilots eyes especial their will take it as some one is Pointing a laser that is attached to a weapon and aiming to shot.

That is the Last thing you want to happen to say the least.

So it might be a good idea to let him know to keep it inside.:)
