Scared of Eye Damage?

Hello Everyone,

Basically I'm just wondering if anyone here was ever nervous or still is nervous about damaging their eyes with a laser, I sort of am. Being someone who has not yet handled a high-power laser, it's a scary thought to think that for whatever reason, if your safety goggles were to slip off and you looked at the dot, you could have permanent eye damage.

Anyone else feel this way?

Thanks,
Gun

I have always been concerned about exposure to high powered lasers, and for good reason. Some of the lasers available today can cause some serious damage in no time at all.

As long as you're safe, and use the correct safety equipment you have little to worry about. Just don't let your goggles fall off. lol

Hi!

I will have my first high power laser soon and must confess I wasn`t aware what saftey requirements will be nessecary to operate one of those!

But thanks to the forum I have read a lot about lasers and safety and now I feel very comfortable with my Eagle pairs I have ordered with the host from Survivallaser!

+1 to the forum for always suggesting to read the very important threads about laser safety first to new members!

Cheers brunes01

I've ordered mine off of LaserLands on Ebay, I've heard they're okay for the lower power lasers but if I get a laser that's a bit more powerful I'll definitely invest in some eagle pair goggles.

I probably would be as well.

Also Whiffin, it may be a good idea to display your location under your username so people know where you're from :)

I am definitely afraid of eye damage. If the lasers out of the box with batteries in it; the goggles go on. Things can fail, like switches, safeties etc. So I treat lasers like firearms, If you don't want to destroy it, don't point at it. :tinfoil:

Thanks fiddy! I will be getting those glasses because my next two builds (also my first two as well) will be a 635nm and 445nm so it would be cheaper to get one pair that protects adequately against both rather than buying 2 different pairs. Im going to run this diode at 1.4A's now after reading some more on the diode, so now it will be about 700mW :D
