safety question about custom laser caps.

I thinking about getting a green laser with the caps that diffuse the laser to multiple dots. I was wondering does it make them more safe than just the solid beam?

At the clubs and raves they have laser shows and the beams go all over the people and in their eyes. Are they not receiving damage to their eyes?

If I buy a 50 or 100mw green laser with the cap on will it be safe to shine on walls while people dance in the light?

I dont wanna hurt people or myself and I tried searching online but it doesnt say anywhere about the changable caps effect on the beam.
please help me.

The cap makes it a lot safer than the regular dot. A 50mW laser with a cap would have about 50 dots each having 1mW.

Although it isn't likely to cause damage accidentally It is still dangerous to point it on peoples faces on purpose

Interesting, I haven't though of this. I am going to be doing a LOT of testing with my LPM when I get it.

I would never point a laser near someones face with a laser over 30mW, tops.

That's true, but the distribution is not even. I have three of these pens, one broken, on one I lose the cap... anyway, both of them ~30mW with about 5mW of IR.

I never LPMed with the starcap, but just looking at the wall, you can see the dots/effect near the center is much brighter.

I absolutely would not go around shining a laser in a crowded space, even a 5mW.

(Besides there is always the risk of, shining it at the wrong person (like me) and you might get to find out what it feels like to have your shoulder socket pop out as I'm dragging you outside to stick the laser where nothing shines:eg:)
