Are chinese laser glasses really protecting my eyes from green lasers up to 200mw? Should they be okay for lower powered greens below 200mw? Also is using glasses without ir protection more dangerous than bare eyes?

Long story short, do I need to upgrade my glasses to a high quality pair? Heard a story of somebody damaging their eye. I also have a family member thats an ophthalmologist, I'm sure they wouldn't be happy that i ruined an eye because i I'm cheap lol

Is it also necessary to use goggles when using the laser at night? (usually in a farm field)

Thanks very much!

There are only two ways to be sure of your goggles. Buy a lpm and test them yourself. Or buy a certified pair.

If your laser is dpss you will also need goggles that have ir protection.

In a open field as long as you don't shine it on anything reflective or close to yourself you will probably be OK but I don't recommend this unless you are very familiar with lasers and confident in your ability to operate it in a safe manner and keep it pointed in safe direction at all times.

Always use google indoors especially when burning.

Thanks so much! I do use dpss lasers
I do follow the rules and there's nobody around when using them :) If people are there i make sure they don't use it and stand behind when looking at the beams :) Do you know where i can pick up better glasses with ir protection? i doubt the pairs i have do. :thanks: Im glad i found this forum! Lots of awesome info! I already ordered a laser off of joker (sic fi lasers) can't wait to see how this one is. Ive only had 2 lasers over 100mw before

awesome thanks so much!!! these look great. Will I be able to see a 100mW 532nm green laser through the darker ones? what about 100mW 405nm as well? I was thinking id rather get the better ones to be safer, especially if i eventually get one of the 2W ones sold by joker lol :p Im purchasing the 100mw green to see how his lasers are, but they don't have ir filters which is my reasoning for making this post lol Thanks again! you guys are so helpful i really appreciate it!

You will be able to see the dot, yes, especially if your laser is actually 100mW. I don't know about the 405, as I do not currently have a working 405nm laser to test it with. I just tried it with 75mW of 532nm and the dot is clearly visible.
