So, I dont understand. Will O-like try to ship it to you and let Customs take it?
What are the restrictions?

Welcome to the forum! :)

http://laserpointerforums.com/f53/change-us-laser-compliance-rules-43321.html

Here are a couple of threads that may help but thorough use of the search button is recommended.

It seems that most O-like lasers will get through to you unmolested but the legal side is clear. It is illegal to import complete lasers into the US that are above 5mW. I'm in the UK and the law is very similar. I think you might find it less worrisome to import an O-like module of higher power as these are not, 'complete', lasers. You can then have fun and build your own! Plenty of hosts are available from the Pro Shop section or the Buy, Sell, Trade section.

Hope that helps a little.

O-like ships the laser in 2 separate packages. One containing the tail cap and battery and another containing the rest of the laser. This seems to be a pretty successful tactic although I have yet to receive a package from them that has been molested by the F-ing shipping Pirates known as customs.

Yeah that was really lame. I hate them for that. That was a HUGE loss.

THey(Customs)"SAY" that confiscated lasers get destroyed. Yeah because they are ignorant about duty/rest cycling, drop them or put the batteries in backwords!!!!!=================mm(*U*)mm=======

Considering how many layers of bubble wrap, plastic, and tape O-like puts around those modules, I wouldn't want to have to cut through that at customs.

Thanks guys! I didn't seem to have issues placing an order, but nothing has arrived. It's not like something pops up and says "we dont ship to the US" I guess some suppliers might not care if your order gets snagged because they already sold it, but most folks seem to want happy customers.

As for putting the batteries in backwards...dont they put a diode in the circuit to prevent from cooking the works?

When I ordered from O-Like I didn't even have them ship in separate packages and all arrived unmolested. Oddly enough it was my battery charger from DX that was ripped open when I received it. Go figure. Oh and shipping took almost a month to get to me. That was annoying!

Yes, thanks. I've been enlightened since my original post. I never thought O-Like was going to stop Customs, just make the customer aware that is might be seized. I see it's on me, it always pays to be a knowledgeable buyer when dealing overseas.

Buying a laser is just a interim step until I develop the skills and resources to build.

Cheers,
Jethro
