SAN ANTONIO -- Police have arrested a man who led them on a chase through downtown early Tuesday morning. The incident happened after allegedly using one of those powerful laser lights to blind other drivers.

Police tell us a plainclothes detective tried to to pull over the driver who then hit the gas and the officer's unit as he fled.

Police caught the suspect a few blocks away and charged him with drug possession and aggravated assault of a public servant.

Yeah this question has been asked for years. No one knows
why people do what they do. But everyone else will get to
suffer because of them.

it sounds more like to me that the cops used the lasers as an exucse to make probable cause.. a plain clothed cop just happened to be there. c'mon... those were drug cops looking for him i bet.

Not necessarily... If this guy was flashing other cars, sending a marked unit
isn't the best way to flush him out..

you don't waste public resources to "flush out" a dude with a laser pointer. public nuisance is only an infraction. they don't take you to jail and fines are usually super cheap.

Our laws between countries must be vastly different... If you were to hit somebody
in the face with a 5mW pointer and cause them physical pain, its assault.

"powerful laser lights to blind other drivers." that alone I can think of several other
charges they could lay, but then again im not sure of the laws there..

mischief, assault, reckless endangerment, etc, not to mention the fact that cops
are looking to make examples out of idiots and lasers. So much so, they will even
chase you with a heli.

A few examples of this problem >

Bus driver blinded by laser: police

Man charged after laser is aimed at train

Ajax teen charged as laser blinds police pilot - thestar.com

Blinding laser attacks on airline pilots surge - The Local

Warwick Man Indicted Accused of Shining Laser into Plane Cockpit | WPRI.com

Id like to know why he wasnt charged for hitting the other drivers.. Maybe
none of them agreed to apper and testify..

we don't know what he was truely doing. there arent other drivers reports. only the report of the plain clothed cop. in america plain clothed cops are usually detectives, or narcotics officers.

The narcotics story seems reasonable somehow, since they also busted him for drug possession. On the other hand, he might just have been high as a kite and poiting the laser at anything that moved.

I suspect the laser incident will be the least of his worries considering americal legislation on drugs and such... i'd be surprised if its even part of the charges as they have enough for a conviction with the drugs.

Yeah. They don't fuck around in Texas when it comes to drugs.
I wouldn't be surprised if the laser-assault charges were not even filed.
