i may just retire from lasers

seems to me like you should see a doctor before making any quick decisions. I know my astigmatism makes my eyes more sensitive to light. Without my contacts in lights seem VERY bright (and obviously blurry) to me. With them in, everything is back to normal.

How old are you? It honestly could just be that your vision is getting worse and it's completely unrelated to lasers. I know mine didn't start to go down hill until I was around 16 or 17.

I just really dont think lasers are the true cause in this case, I could be completely wrong, but the types of symptoms one usually sees from retina damage aren't really what you're describing.

Make an eye appt.!!!

strange, my eyes started getting bad when i was like 10 or 11. now that im 17 my eyes haven't changed in the past 2 years!

my vision seems much better now, though i still cant read from distance and any light just seems bright to me.
i'm going to take an eye test on wednesday - my first eye test since primary school. I'll keep you updated with the results. (hopefully it wont be anything serious)

Thats reassuring for me then , my eyes have been getting worse for the last 7 years, since I was 7 actually, But the last eye examination I had they only got fractionally worse, so hopefully mines will just stay at the level they are at now, which is pretty damn bad ! I struggle to read a registration plate from 4 meters away.

Anyway, you should go see an eye doctor, it could just be your sight deteriorating as you get older , or it could also be some other problem. Hopefully it's nothing to bad, and can probably be sorted by glasses.

Pretty well, I mean after a few eye surgeries and glasses four inches thick I'm glad to be seeing good.

I think i'm going to retire to. I have been using it for couple of months and even though i'm very careful with it, i think it has deteriorated my sight.
I'm not sure though, it could just be mentally because i have never gotten it in my eye and i try to never look at the dot at close range.
I never use goggles becuase i never burn stuff so i don't have to look at the dot. I only shoot objects very far away and the sky. Sometimes however you can miss and get fractions back to your eyes.
I've also scared my friends so much, that they are even afraid of putting their hand infront of the beam!

I use a X100.

I haven't thought of that. But maybe i'll keep it as a souvenir. Its better not to keep it but its difficult to let go of something this beautiful . Like use it one time each year.

Ive noticed that stuff has been abit blurrier since a few months ago, though I can still see up close and at long distances. Im not too worried, but it is scary stuff! Good luck with whatever choice you make

What makes the laser so dangerous to the eye? Is the the amount of light entering the eye on such a small area=lots of light inside your eye?

You could always get laser eye surgery! Using a laser to fix an eye you messed up playing with lasers. How's that for ironic?

I would actually like to get laser eye surgery at some point. It looks scary as hell though. First they have to cut part of your cornia open, then shine a laser in your eye, all of the while your eye lids are clamped open.

The laser affects your eye, since your eye is kinda like a lense, it focuses the laser light down to a even SMALLER dot on your retina. Also sonce the light is in such a high concentration, and the same wavelength, its alot easier to get alot more light into your eye than normal.

ok guys a quick update on my eye test results-
the optician said im "short-sighted" and that i now need to wear glasses i never thought i would live to see this day - i had such perfect vision, im still in shock.
however on the positive side of things, she couldnt see any retinal or nervous damage to the eye so im really pleased about that. i waited until after the test to tell her that its lasers that may have played a part behind my bad vision. (i wanted to wait until after the test so i could hear her side of things before breaking the ice on her about lasers).
she claims, the lasers did "not" damage my eyes as she saw no internal damage. i was told, exposure to laser radiation does not result in being short-sighted, but retrinal burns (which i seem to have avoided)
i told her how dim lights at night seem very bright to me. she said something about my eyes seeing it differently and having to compensate enough light to see it or something along those lines. :-?
basically, if i wear glasses at night, they would ease the brightness down so it wouldnt appear really bright.
then it was a matter of choosing the frames - the only ones that would fit me cost around $260.
so as far as lasers go, i havent touched a laser for a few days on the trot now, and will only use them rarely unless its important.
