Don't think I would have called it a "reality check", but I guess you can call it that if it makes sense to you.  I've always known the real danger of lasers, so it wasn't like I needed a reality check.  Actually, I started this thread because I wanted to share an unfortunate that occurred to me to help others who could possibly undergo the same unfortunate.   No body really knows each other on this forum unless anybody who might have spent some time and actually made friends with another member in person, but many people seem to judge really easy.  It's easy to assume that any given member is an immature, irresponsible, ignorant kid when there are a few of them here, so people are quick to categorize.  I am a 26 year old man who has been responsible for my own actions, and own doings since I was mature enough to realize that I exist.  What ever, a true friend would say "wow, that sucks.  Sorry that happened.  Why where you so stupid?"  And they would honor and respect what I'm doing here with this thread by not exploiting my blunder, which was underestimating the power of the blu-ray that I put together, but to teach and remind people not to make the same mistake.  If costs are an issue, then he/she shouldn't own a laser in the first place.  My thread has been completely taken out of context, and everybody's posts so far has been my reality check, that there is little to no respect or honor toward what I've attempted to do here.  But it is however, of no surprise.  :

It was actually before, and I really never had the laser shot even close to directly at my eye. But it defiantly didn't happen directly after I used my blu ray for a few seconds, it was a few hours later, and I did have some crazy headaches before the "blu-ray" incident, and it happened a couple days after I got beat. I believe it very well could have been from head trauma.

First off, if you were responsible, wait were you?, you didnt specify what you had on your eyes at the time... Secondly, do you go on your responsible drinking binges with your lasers? Do you responsibly use them when you cant remember what caused some dude to attack? Were you pointing a laser whilst intoxicated maybe at the guys girlfriend? I am a 32 year old man, responsible as in I dont get drunk and play with such dangerous items in front my unprotected friends... My lasers dont leave the house, and they are not viewed by unprotected eyes. You think your eyes were the only ones affected by this incident? Who knows maybe your buddies came along for the ride and dont even know it yet.

I think that all of the members input on the proper eye wear, and possible substitutes border more on the topic of preventative, rather than ouch my eye, please feel sorry for me.

It sucks that it happened, I would not wish it upon anyone, but its your dumba$$ that brought it on yourself.

I have been caught by a reflection once throught the side of my goggles, it was MY OWN DAMN FAULT, and I didnt come on here to whine about it, nor the price of goggles. I offered a simple solution for those who are "too lazy" to avoid precisely what happened to you.

Were we all supposed to offer therapy? Or maybe say a prayer for you?


Frothy mentioend that peoples injuries and incidents are what is going to cause the banning of such items, but I forgot that I was supposed to be reaching for the kleenex box instead. :-X

i think you took these posts as f they were being directed towards you, which they are not.

i can see you believe in eye protection and you preach it just as much as i do, i saw your post and wanted to state my opinion of money vs goggles to the other members.

i also completely see your point with this thread and i think its a good idea to share the experience you had to hopefully open up the eyes of the other members and possibly save them from making the same mistake that you did.

i also do not like to look at the dot of 405nm up close or for very long if it is focused on a still spot. it just doesnt feel good or right. im very excited to have some goggles for this so i can finally align the 405nm in my scanner properly without irritation!

and i will check my pms now.

Well put. I was waiting for someone to bring the "shining lasers while you're drunk" ... No, I never use my lasers while drunk, because I don't have interests. There's nothing really I can type with words that can justifiably argue your words, and I knew that someone would enlighten me. Actually, have you ever seen the movie fight club?

P.S. I don’t whine, I’m not self centered, and I don’t need prayers or sympathy. I was only trying to share my thoughts of two POSSIBILITIES that could have caused me eye damage, and to let everybody know that 405nm high power is NO JOKE.

Just keep us informed on your eye condition, I don't think that you just shining your laser at your sock would cause that much damage. It would have immediately become apparent if it happened at that time, so im inclined to go with the fight part of your story as the cause.

IMO the damage was probably caused by the fight. Looking at the dot on a sock shouldn't cause that much damage. Have the doctor check for retinal burns and if you have none it was most likely caused by the fight.

You mentioned that you were directly punched in the right temple, and only your right eye was damaged. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that the temples have some kind of connections to the retinas, more than the rest of the head, and that would probably be what has caused you the trouble, not the laser.

Just a small article about the possibility of what happened, another cause is bruising, a blood clot restricting oxygen-rich blood to the artery of the retina causing central blindness. Seems as if lasers might be able to fix it, but they defiantly didn't cause it. Still visiting the doctor, need blood tests, probably end up going to the eye doctor. Problem continues, luckily my other eye compensates for the loss of clarity in my right eye so I am not prevented from any normal daily activities.

agreed, i know its kinda 'imposible' and wankers who want to shine lasers at aeroplanes are only interested in cheap lasers.
but i realy think laser companies should reduce the cost of there glasses
