Do the legalities regarding Class IV lasers differ from those regarding Class IIIB lasers (legal to make and use, illegal to buy and sell)? Is it required to register a Class IV laser with the FDA to legally own and operate it, and would this be any different between lab-style lasers and handheld lasers (like a 525mW green laser)?

I believe that ALL lasers over 5mW are subject to the same rules and regulations in the US.

I believe that ALL lasers over 5mW are subject to the same rules and regulations in the US.

Federal law covers use, manufacturing and import, and export.

Lasers over 50 watts or with certain beam characteristics are subject to International Traffic in Arms Regulations when exported.

Arizona , Texas, Florida, California , Massachusetts have state laws.

Lasers shot into airspace come under FAA 7400.2

Demostration lasers, ie in classrooms and laser shows, have very specific rules, and laser shows require permits and certified equipment.

I agree with LSRFAQ. I saw that on a web site that saidthe rules and regulations of lasers.
