I've heard rumors about laws regarding lasers such as "you can't sell a laser more than 5mW" and things like that. But I don't think that's true....

Anyway, I would like to sell some lasers I've made on Craigslist. Can I do that? What should I watch out for?

Thank you.

P.S. Sorry for the typo in the title.

As long as your not around my town. I have trust issues with people and high power lasers, especially some of those craigposters.

I already heard that there is someone going around shining a greenie in peoples rear-view in my town:wtf:. That sux, cause these grey hairs have a hard enough time driving without some douche shining a laser in their eyes while driving.:tsk:

It's actually against the ToS on Craigslist to sell them there, if there's any stupid ads on Craigslist for lasers (I.E. 1000MW 532nm pen laser) just report em.

Thank you for your input. I have not thought of that. I didn't really think of people doing bad things with lasers that might come from me. I was just thinking of an easy way to make a couple bucks.

I here that! I have thought of it also. Even made a post on it though I wrote a clause that I would cancel the sale if I deemed necessary which prolly in hindsight is why I pulled the add. :undecided:

I've never posted an ad on craigslist attempting to sell a laser, but I did respond to a WTB ad once. Met up with the guy, he seemed very reasonable, professional, and responsible, so I built him a laser. No problems and he even emails me once in a while to see how I'm doing and to find out if diodes have gotten more powerful yet :eg:

Why do you think the laws are rumors ? You could take the time and google to see for yourself instead of relying on rumors.

I know this thread is a bit older, but I had looked into the subject before and found a few pieces of possibly useful information.

1, I couldn't find anything against lasers being prohibited to sell on craigslist here: craigslist | about > prohibited items

2, You should be able to sell lasers as a "survival laser flare", a "laser etcher" or possible a "laser sight". thought the last one is kinda iffy given craigslist's no guns or related materials restriction. (though i've seen them there before)

I don't really think it's right to sell a 1W laser to just anyone, I'd have to really shape the guy up for that. However, 100mw and less, not as big of a deal. maybe 250mw if the person knows their stuff.

What do you all think?

Because blinding yourself, a family member, a friend, a stranger, or a pet is so much nicer if they were blinded by a 100mW laser?

I have not seen the host
However, unless it has all of the safety features required by the FDA, you cannot sell it "legally" anyway
CL is the MUCH lesser of the potential evils here ;)

Peace,
