I hope... I desperatly hope... that this does not come to pass... I just placed an order with WL for some goggles and got the following email in responce. It scares me...

Dear laser enthusiast,

we have delayed your order to give you this exciting offer! In our attempts to keep costs low for our customers, we have recently acquired the means to produce our own laser safety goggles! These will be sold at a fraction of the price of the current goggles. We will be liquidating our current selection of goggles to make room for our new and improved wicked lasers goggles! These will be sold at 9.99$ for the lasershades and 19.99$ for the sport elite. If you would like to postpone your order so you can receive the new goggles, simply reply to this email with “I want the wicked lasers goggles” in the body. If you do not reply within 48 hours, we will process and ship your order with the old goggles instead.

-Steve
Wicked Lasers

Everyone, you better grab your WL goggles while you can! I can only dream how bad the new WL-brand will be...

IMO, this is one of the best moves I've seen Wicked do. Don't be too quick to judge them. If these have a good OD rating for the 532nm, I'll probably buy some here for the laser lab. [wanting to start rant, short rant started] Too many kids with too many class IIIb lasers, safety is crucial. Provided they give adequate protection, regardless of your company preference, there can never be enough safety when it comes to your eyes.[/end short rant]

I agree with this response 100%. Not really sure how you couldn't unless you hate laser safety or something.

Now, of course we're gunna have to get ahold of a few pairs of these WL made goggles and make sure they aren't BSing us. If they work though, I can't say I see any negatives to more laser protection options on the market.

I will probably buy a pair as an extra to have around for friends. Unless they take clear goggles and coat them rather than producing them from a homogeneous material, I don't see how you can screw up For spares, even coated goggles would probably be ok as they won't get the constant use that could lead to scratches in the coating.

At any rate, you know we're going to have to test these.

if these work out ill probably liquidate the goggles I have now and buy the cheaper ones

I have:
1x green sports elite
2x green lasershades
2x red lasershades (both on the way)

adds up to quite a bit of money... / huge savings if I go with the $9.99 ones from WL

I'm sorry I don't have a severe bias against companies. I don't care what the company name is. If the products work well within specifications, I'm a customer (granted..to many other companies as well!) The same principle applies to the goggles. The only thing people may not like is the $20 shipping cost which brings it up to $30.

As this is a "safety" product produced by an unregulated overseas company, I think that a serious spectroscopic analysis is in order before anyone trusts their retinas to these goggles. "Product liability" isn't something that Chinese manufacturing companies are always particularly concerned about. We have tested some very poor goggle samples from various Asian manufacturers and they don't always block what they say they block... scary.

sounds like i should get rid of my last WB's and get some goggles before they're gone - if the new goggles are good i could always order some spares for friends and whatnot

I really wouldn't think that the new goggles would be crap, I wouldn't expect any laser company to sell out goggles that don't work and have someone fry out their eyes. The new goggles may not be as high of quality, but they should still do the job. As stated above we'll have someone test them for us.

Ashton,
So what did you end up paying for them? I don't see any liquidation prices on their website. They should sell them to you at the liquidation price unless they are BS'ing.
