I also believe we need to have very harsh punishments for ANYONE who says you can hit an airplane (or any other vehicle or living thing for that matter) with a laser pointer. I am only saying this because thats what the sellers tell people at a local flea market. I would rat out any of the sellers that mentioned you can do something dangerous with the pointers.

The Laser Revolution, I like it pretty catchy, this is really serious.

Was this bill passed? Some one posted that it passed the senate.

Was it originated in the Senate? Does it still have to pass the House?

Is it signed into law at this point?

Were there any alterations made to the bill that are different from the previously posted "original bill".

That little bit about "flight paths" is total BS. Every inch of the sky is more or less a "flight path" at some altitude or another regardless of it being commercial or military.

Same reason lasers shouldn't be illegal. If you ban something that can be used for both legal and illegal purposes, only those who break the law will have it. I suspect that were it not for their explicit mention in our constitution, guns *would* have been banned by now to some extent. Unfortunately the founding fathers could hardly have known to include a laser amendment

Prior to the proliferation of dirt cheap low power laser pointers, I think a lot of people would have considered lasers to be weapons. You have to remember that the only place 90% of the population ever saw "lasers" prior to this was in sci-fi movies blasting holes in the enemy. There were certainly plenty of people freaked out by the mention of "radiation" on the warning label. A lot of people still don't know the difference between ionizing radiation and light/radio waves.

If you read the entire bill you may agree with a lot of it. I cant argue with higher pentalties for those intefering with aircraft etc. But the wording about 'potential airspace' could be taken any almost anywhere thataircraft COULD be and thus no lasering the clouds etc would be legal. Those in power need to get guidance from somebody that knows lasers. Not just those who dont like them. Kepp sending that message to your reps and congressmen. Most everybody has a facebook these days. Even Obama and the Speaker of the House. So far the bill has passed but still has a ways to go. As usual they attached to some other bills that need passing--another Wash D.C. dirty trick!!!.

Since nobody really cares about lasers except us, we are prolly wasting our time but we should all contact SOMEBODY anyway , everybody will hear of every idiot doing anything stupd with a laser but the tens of thousands doing nothing idiotic is not news.

There are some good points in this bill and in writing I feel we need to say that we all agree in stiffer pentalities for mis-use , especially involving aircraft, vehicles and police or police vehicles .:thanks:

I'd like to chime in. I'm pretty new to this forum as I mostly just read on here, but I'd like to interject. Not to sound redundant as this has been covered, and but just wanted to share my thoughts. Here in michigan where I live we have the option to register for a ccw ( carry concealed weapon) permit. It's limited to those of us who do not have a prior record, and at least the age of 18... Or perhaps it's 21... But either way it's what they determined to be a responsible adult age.

Instead of banning lasers for us responsible people, perhaps there should be type of registration needed or license to own and operate one. If they classified them as such a danger, let us hold the responsibility and punishment for misuse. As responsible adults we should at least have the option.

By needing a specific license, and having to register these units , perhaps those individuals who would be foolish enough to break the common sense safety rules, may think more carefully while handling a laser... Especially when the repercussions of breaking any of these rules would result in the forfeiture of ever owning and operating one again... bare minimum... Or perhaps much worse depending on the offense.

I just don't believe in completely stripping away our right to own them. Advancements through private innovation comes from experimenting with this type of technology, that should not be hampered as a result of a few irresponsible mis users.

I would be more than willing to register mine, but like most people on this forum, I'm not the issue, and I respect this technology in the dangers associated with it if commonsense safety protocalls are not exercised.

(FIT101) Perhaps part of the problem is that the government will not consider a laser as a "firearm", or if they do will not currently admit to it. They will consider it as a safety hazard that needs regulation. The BATF does not regulate lazers... the FDA does. The FDA will "think differently" about lasers then the BATF would. Thorny politics with responsible hobbyists caught in the middle.

Who knows how politicians REALLY think anyway... I gave up on them a LONG time ago concerning certain veterans legislation.
